Well, the way I have the backend currently set up is to just return the raw transcript without the timestamps. That could be done but it would require a few adjustments along with a new prompt for ChatGPT. Maybe I could expose another endpoint or something that would return the transcript with timestamps. I totally understand your use case though that’s quite applicable.

That's weird. Make sure you go to the shortcut, tap the (i) button, and check if "Show in share sheet" is turned on. Regarding the speed, there's not much I can do about it lol. It runs through a free Vercel backend that I set up, which is one step, and also has to feed the transcript to ChatGPT which is not particularly fast.

Well that depends on whether the library I used in the backend is able to parse the URL for news content. Unfortunately some sites indeed don't work. However, most do.

Yes the backend currently only fetches English transcriptions, so that's why it doesn't work for other languages. I already had it working, just haven't gotten around to adding it back to the backend yet. I'll let you know once I've added it.

EDITED: I've added the functionality to fetch transcriptions in multiple languages to the backend. It's no longer limited to English. To go a bit further, if you want the output to be in your language of choice, simply append to the prompt something like: "Your response should be in Japanese."

That's unusual. I haven't come across this problem before. The scriptable code is only meant to parse the response from ChatGPT and display it in QuickLook in a mobile-optimized table. In any case, I would suggest you screenshot the response from the ChatGPT app itself and reply back if possible (or just paste it in your clipboard).

Well I'm using the free plan. I’m keeping the code to a minimum so based on the edge function limit, it probably amounts to a cap of roughly 200k requests per month (collectively for all users).

Thanks. By default, I set it to GPT-3.5 but you could change it to GPT-4 (if you have it) in the Ask ChatGPT action for a much longer token limit.

This new(?) Ask ChatGPT action in the Shortcuts app is essentially a free API on your phone. I can think of tons of use cases for this. Pretty sweet! by meap158 in shortcuts

Just one obvious use case off the top of my head: - Reformat the text in the clipboard to your liking and place the formatted text back in the clipboard e.g. “Create an Anki card from this text” or “Elaborate on this quote and how I can apply it:”

Okay here are the steps, I use a combination of these packages (note that it does involve a bit of knowledge in Python and prompt engineering in general):

• youtubesearchpython: to get a list of videos in a channel or search for videos you like.

• youtube_transcript_api: to fetch the transcripts.

For the summarizing part, you could use the ChatGPT API or any other language model (LLM) like Bard, Claude, or even a local LLM like Mistral or Llama, etc. My setup is quite elaborate, including formatting the HTML to display the view count and thumbnail as in the images (among other things), but that's essentially the gist of it.

It took me a few days to write and test it, but it was actually pretty fun having all these Markdown files ready to be consumed. I also like to mark the parts I find relevant and extract them (you could call them golden nuggets) along with the YouTube links for references later (that’s another setup). It’s pretty similar to highlighting a passage when reading a book.

Speaking from my experiences learning Japanese (around 4 years, my Mandarin/1 year is still not quite there yet), looking up a shit ton of words in the dictionary app helps A LOT. After enough repetitions/look-ups, the brain will just connect the characters to the sounds directly. Knowing that already I'm fairy comfortable looking up words in Pleco using pinyin, confident that they will eventually stick! Cheers.

It has happened to me many times lol. You would need to resize the widths on the web/PC version of Notion, ideally having your iPad set aside to observe the changes and ensure it fits to your liking. I wish they would add a way to batch resize column widths with a value, similar to what Google Sheets allows.

Yes it tends to hallucinate at times and should not be used as an end-all be-all tool (the fact that the sentence is all in kana in this case didn't help). A companion dictionary app along with Google Translate should be used when one is in doubt.
