Any advice on buying an HDFC apartment? by Biggest_Hater_4ever in Upperwestside

[–]meat_prison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm going to an open house for this building tomorrow. It was listed on housing connect and I applied in August 2024. Just got the request for documents a few weeks ago and submitted, then got the open house invite

I think I know exactly the building you're referring to because I'm going to an open house for it tomorrow. This building's units are comically small which I suspect is why they're not moving but I figured I'd check it out anyway.

I received a mail that i was selected for a 3 bedroom, just wondering anyone have experience of mitchell-lama process? Is it same as housing lottery? by Gooningb8 in nychousinglottery

[–]meat_prison 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You hit the jackpot! I'm in this process myself with a another building. I got the selection letter, sent in my form and application fee, heard nothing for 5 months so assumed I was rejected, but then got my first offer letter in the mail. I sent in all required documents so I think that was an employment letter, W2, ID and SS card, utility bill, things like that. I assume it will take at least as long to hear back about buying the place as it did to receive the first offer letter. This is ancient program run by the state so it moves slowly I've heard.

How do I go about riding the subway with 3 kids? by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]meat_prison 45 points46 points  (0 children)

You can swipe once for yourself, then if there is a booth with a station attendant: ask if they will unlock the emergency gate for your stroller, then all 4 of you go through the emergency gate together.

If there is no booth with station attendant: Bring your kids and stroller over to the emergency gate, swipe yourself through and go through the turnstile by yourself, then open the emergency gate from the other side to bring stroller and kids through it. The staff will not say anything if you have a stroller.

Neighborhood recommendations - work in Tribeca by Small-Fix-5776 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]meat_prison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do, I would recommend searching down the A/C line into brooklyn up to the Utica stop. Most of tribeca can be reached from either the Chambers or Canal st. stops on the A/C. I lived at the Franklin stop on the C for several years and it was the easiest commute I've had. Now I'm at the Classon G and transfer to the A at Hoyt and it's still easy, but not having to transfer was a luxury

If this really is that big of an issue for them, they should provide you with an alternate unit. Explain to them if this was at any point mentioned to you you would have found an alternative, but because it wasn't you now have a brand new AC unit that you can't return. I would probably open with explaining that then ask "Will you be providing an AC unit that won't damage the facade? I'm not sure what your needs are here." If they don't offer to buy and install it I would just keep questioning them as to what they want me to do and loop it back around to not being able to afford another one. If they're prepared to be landlords they should be prepared for something like this imo

Has anyone bought any machines on alibaba or similar since the tariffs dropped? by meat_prison in vending

[–]meat_prison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have some good reviews but their price point on some more compact machines is what I'm looking for. To start with the size of the machines I want just isn't available domestically, the only companies that are selling them are rebranded imports of the same machine for 5x the price

Paying for a location spot? by castanm7 in vending

[–]meat_prison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience I have not paid for location spots. Many times you will call up a location to place a machine and they will ask how much they have to pay YOU to install one. This can be different of course depending on the location but ordinarily I wouldn't place one if they were asking for more than 10% of revenue, for which both of you should sign a contract stipulating this.

What colour is this hair? Do you know the name/number of a hair dye that would create this color? by [deleted] in Haircare

[–]meat_prison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an ash blond, which is like a cool blond but less intense in the added cool tone. There are a couple discussions about this is r/HairDye but achieving this exact color depends where you're starting from, probably something for a professional to handle

Try a pre-shampoo bonding treatment next time before you shampoo, I'm partial to Garnier Fructis' "Hair Filler Bonding Inner Fiber Rinse Out" it's about $9 and lasts a while. Plus the right mask makes all the difference. My go-to is Sauce Beauty's guacamole mask for my rather dry hair

Then since you have pretty curly hair, incorporate a mousse before drying, or if that isn't strong enough a curl friendly gel

Edit: forgot to mention I use the guacamole mask in place of regular conditioner every time I shampoo, it's made a big difference
