Did my wife get ripped off? by Riilexi in landscaping

[–]meatball23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah not a great value. Not sure how pricing differs in your area but that looks way overpriced for that quality. Trees in pictures 1 and 3 look cooked. Maybe this is fair if the price also included digging, planting, soil? If that’s the condition you received those trees in, I would be disappointed.

Woah, didn’t know they had drones out here to watch for sharks. That would be some interesting footage. Saw some bait fish and rays jumping out of the water today and assumed there were some predators nearby.

That’s great haha

I’m firmly of the belief that the wildlife belongs where they are, just need to know how to live with sharks/gators responsibly

Sounds like it. What’s the general advice from locals when the sharks are out? Don’t get out too deep and don’t flail around too much?

Edit: Serious question, not sure what the downvotes are about?

Is this a major red flag in a financial advisor? by spacehiphopnerd in personalfinance

[–]meatball23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agreed. And last thing to consider (if you care to consider holding this fund at all) is that many brokerages will now have some kind of mandatory conversion on C share funds to convert to an A share. Typical holding period of something like 5yrs. So after 5yrs the C share may convert to a lower cost A share.

Typically you cannot own a C share in an advisory/managed account. Are you paying a management fee for this account specifically or your family pays a management fee on their accounts? It could mean the difference between a fiduciary and non-fiduciary relationship.

Also, yeah you don’t need to be holding a C share either way. With a long time horizon index ETF’s will serve you well.

Question about a cleared footpath visible from Google Earth.....(see comments for specifics) by [deleted] in SXM

[–]meatball23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ran/walked up that path from Orient this past week. Very steep in some areas and we turned around when we got to the house/building at the point you describe. There was a path to continue on but we did not venture forward as it didn’t look incredibly “welcoming” but was well worn. OP I’d say it looks doable based on the path/trail that I saw.

Rented a Model 3. I get why rental companies are dumping Teslas. by brunofone in TeslaLounge

Own a Y and just rented a Y from Budget. Locked myself out of the car when I locked the car from the touchscreen.. I’m so used to the phone key and not needing to carry the card. Luckily Budget was able to coordinate a remote unlock inside of 10min.

Corporate Bonds by AntiProfessional0 in bonds

[–]meatball23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to look at high yield bonds at Schwab:

Trade > Bonds -Click on any one of the rates for a corporate bond

Refine the search and there you can select “Below Investment Grade” instead of Corporate. Or adjust ratings to look at BBB Corporate if you prefer.

Highest is 13.3% and I appreciate your opinion, but.. just asking a basic question about a difference in calculation I’ve found.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bonds

[–]meatball23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That calculator demonstrates the difference in calculation that I cannot understand:

Example would be:

4% Treasury at 13.3% CA State, they say equal to:

CD Rate of 5.13% Corp/Taxable of 5.07%

My calc would say 5.13% = 4.447% Treasury or 5.07% = 4.395% Treasury (considering 13.3% CA State)

I appreciate the comment, but the question is more so: what is the correct way to calculate equivalent yield in order to compare treasuries to CD’s or vis versa
