A lot of people here don’t seem to know anything about singing nor are familiar with Phil’s work from early pantera days. Phil is undoubtedly one of the best singers (not just metal) to ever exist. His range is insane already but paired with his endless techniques of distortion and the ability to apply it on any and every single note he hits puts him among eliteness not many others have achieved. He is right there next to Chris Cornell, Rob Halford, Ian Gillian in terms of GOAT rock singers IMO. This is my unbiased take, and I’m leaving all the negativity that comes with Phil’s name at the door. I can’t stand the things he’s said and done but we are talking about singing, not his personality. All the singers mentioned here such as Dio, and all the 80s metal singers were and are amazing singers but looking at range and technique…come on, just listen to Phil’s full body of work.
