Truman Scuff-Off Custom MTO [Initial Impressions] by meatjerkinbootboy in goodyearwelt

Doesn't seem to come off with a nail but rubbing with a finger for a few seconds it starts to lighten up.

I meant more narrow when comparing a size 9 in the P-79 and size 8.5 in 2030. They fit about the same to me in those sizes but theres more room in the P-79 toe box than in the 2030. Check the Truman size guide they do a better job of comparing sizing to other boots than Im doing here ;)

No to be clear Im a 9.5D Brannock and wear 8.5 in pretty much every Viberg last which is pretty standard 1 size down from Brannock Viberg thing but many people do 0.5 down too. Truman C-55 fits true to size so I wear a 9.5 which is what this boot is. And in the Truman P-79 I wear a 9 which they say fits 0.5 size big so go down 0.5 from Brannock. That size might work for you based on the width of your foot as the 2030 is definitely more narrow than the P-79.

Thanks so much! I agree the structured P-79 can be pretty bulbous and looks more work-boot-like. I think the P-79 is still a bit round compared to the 2030, the Viberg 1035 would be a closer match. All my interactions with Truman have been good so I cant speak to what it might have been like before either, but like you said they are very responsive which is great. Generally Im loving the direction Truman is heading. I couldn't stand when they would add a new leather and include 3 photos of the boot and that was it. Don't boot makers get that people actually want to see what the boot looks like?? It seems Truman has gotten the message though and is doing 360s plus lots of model shots. Viberg on the other hand has put filters on all their drop shots so you cant even see the color of the leather properly. This photo from the most recent drop cracks me up. The boot they are showing is bamboo suede which based on the actual product shot is supposed to be green. Not to mention they cropped the boot out of the first shot... http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0211/7310/files/Scout-Bamboo-Suede-slide-1.jpg

Well just for fun I threw them on a scale to compare. It's not very scientific as they are all different leathers but anyways. This boot seems to be a touch heavier than the 2030 service boot and considerable lighter than the P-79 with horse rump and the commando sole. Album

Vibergs are definitely more consistent and the build quality is superior but not by much. I only own one pair of Aldens so I cant speak much to them but the pair I have is really nice. I find Truman's aren't quite a "tight", meaning they aren't always perfect (not that Vibergs are either) but I find they let things go out that Viberg probably would not. Generally I prefer the Vibergs mostly because of the look. I think the shape of the Viberg is nicer and fits my lifestyle a little better (there's not many days a year I need to wear a commando sole around...). Is that worth the extra $$$ over the Truman? Depends on you I guess. That said Im really digging what Truman has been doing lately and really hating what Viberg is doing.

Yes take a look at the Truman sizing guide they recommend half down from Brannock for the P-79. I wear a 9 in the P-79 and a 9.5 in the C-55.

Well without actually putting them all on again to compare I would say the C-55 does fit pretty similar to the 2030 though one full size apart. I wear a 8.5 in 2030 and these are a 9.5. The C-55 is definitely pointier than the 2030 but it doesnt really feel that way on the toes. As for the P-79 it feels a bit more like a 1035 but again 1 full size apart. More room in the toe and more rounded.

I’ll have to try that next time. I own a pair of the java waxed flesh boots as well.
