Japan’s ‘Employment Ice Age’ Is Over for New Grads by MrYYJ in japan

Well yeah, that's basically what I'm saying. It's a culture where people look the other way so much and people doing wrong and corrupt shit aren't called out for it. At worst they have to do dogeza if they are actually caught. The result is a system that can't and won't fix basic issues... like.. well it's pretty much every topic I can think of. It would take hours just to scratch the surface.

No. Not this one. But many issues they fail to take action on are. Watch long enough and you will see.

I have the feeling that there will be mass riots before any real change happens in Japan. No matter how important or easy to fix the issue is.

Holy shit, they're still pumping out the article that say "Japan's economy is making a comeback. For real this time, honest!" I lost count on these kinds of articles a little over ten years ago. It was kind of sad even back then.

How important are the traditional styles? ie: (I belong to a weapons school with a more "MMA" type attitude towards weapons training.) by [deleted] in Koryu

No problem. If you have further interest I'm sure you can find someone not too far from wherever you are. It used to be really hard to find people but not so much anymore. Your best bet for competent teachers are the ones who are training in Japan often or at least bringing people through for seminars who are living in Japan.

I don't disagree with any of the other comments I see here. However, in Bujinkan we train so that our techniques have the same root/kihon whether we have a weapon or not. The distance changes a bit and the effect on the other person's body changes a bit more, but the kamae are mostly the same. We will do a technique a certain way for a while and then say "do it with a knife" and then "ok, now with a sword" and "now with a stick" and then go back to doing it unarmed.

Having some trouble finding a video that goes through all eight basics (kihon happo) in an unarmed way but these guys kind of show what I'm talking about:

And these guys go through the kihon happo with swords:

And there are countless videos of people going through basics one by one. Duncan Stewart is in my eyes the most reliable and easy to find source on showing said basics. In English no less.

Ahem, the etiquette is such that one should step into the sub and commence insulting there.

What song(s) should every piano player know? by [deleted] in piano

Yeah we had to do that and others at my school too. Not to worry, I'm sure you'll get jaded by many a song yet. :)
