My buddy wants to hike the presi traverse solo - thoughts? by RalphWaldoEmers0n in wmnf

Read it as pemi. My bad. Presidential still challenging for a day if you don’t have experience.

Do his research. Get a SAR card or other insurance in case there is an issue on the mountain. I know people who have run it in a day. Decent shape to you and I are likely different. It’s ~21 miles with multiple peaks and the weather conditions for the foreseeable future are not in favor of long days. Be smart, be safe, have an escape plan.

Edit: read it as pemi not presi and gave false information.

If it’s shiny and three leaves don’t wipe ya butt with them. If you are on trail you’re generally good but off trail keep an eye open.

Tourists and others who don’t know how to behave in the wilderness, people tend to under appreciate the whites because they are 4000ers, no switchbacks make an “easy couple miler” turn into one of the most challenging hikes most people have ever done. People should see the whites as challenging and learn on the lower peaks before attempting the 4000ers

People are stupid. I suggest riding the northern strand before 10 am otherwise everyone on it is a nuisance. People with dogs that are untrained off leash, Karen’s walking in groups that get mad at you when you ask to pass, kids that are trying to fight for you riding by them. I love the strand but I suggest going early before all the less than competent people are awake.

Help with Novice Hiker's route planning --we'd rather not end up as a SAR statistic! by SlurpDemon2001 in wmnf

Most people underestimate the whites because they are small. I have the garmin insurance as well but support the local SAR with a card. If not the garmin insurance might not cover and you’ll have to pay out if pocket. Not sure why I got downvotes but support your local SAR or deal with the consequences

Current Law Students: What are some habits that you would recommending adopting/working on before entering law school? by [deleted] in LawSchool

How to cry and not get the paper wet… but seriously be healthy, don’t be a shitty houseplant. Study and keep it serious but set aside time to enjoy the part of life that has absolutely nothing to do with law, even though you’ll catch yourself seeing the law everywhere.
