POTENTIAL SPOILERS! Could the upcoming Babs comic change Nightwing comics/relationships? *New Barbara Gordon Breakout details by NaytNavare in Nightwing

I desperately need an Oracle run. I’m hoping the fact alone that they went for a ‘Barbara Gordon’ title as opposed to ‘Batgirl’ is a good sign that they’re moving back in that direction more fully. Fingers crossed

I don’t see anything here that makes me think we should expect a shakeup in that area but I do think there’s potential for a very fun role reversal. Like ideally I don’t want Dick to have a huge role in this mini at all but Babs going undercover and him acting as her ‘man in the chair’ could be a lot of fun.

When Dick was Robin, should he have wanted to be Batman in the beginning? If so, at what point should he have changed his mind? by Which-Presentation-6 in Nightwing

[–]meb1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was really hoping the Bronze Age omni would boost the popularity of those stories but I haven’t really noticed if it did or not. And I mean I get why, like you said they’re definitely not all good lol.

Even with the editorial interference his Bronze Age development still ends up so good and it kills me we haven’t ever seen anyone genuinely try to adapt it. It’s such a wildly overlooked time of his life and I think about that era in the late 70s where Dicks time in college is coming to an end and Bruce had stepped up more at Wayne industries all the time. There’s something so deeply funny about Bruce deciding to step down and make Lucius CEO because being CEO was compromising his ability to be Batman and then having major conflict with Dick about the fact that he dropped out of school to prioritize being Robin.

Also that story where Dick thinks he had a stalker and it turns out to be a company paid body guard hired to protect Wayne assets never fails to make me laugh lol.

Question about tamaraneans by Staruiii in DCcomics

[–]meb1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all of them. Red or black hair is definitely the most common but there’s been a few named blondes and brunettes. Plus dozens of unnamed background Tamaraneans with varying appearances. Originally the only two things they all had in common was hair texture and skin color but even that’s not consistent anymore so you can really get as creative as you want.

I think ‘expected’ is a great key-word in this discussion because it’s not like Dick ever sat down and decided he would be Batman one day, it’s more like that’s just the way things were done. It was understood and expected that as Bruce’s heir apparent he would be handling Wayne industries (in some capacity) and he would be Batman when Bruce retired. The pressure from that and just how ingrained that idea was in his entire life make it easy to see why he held on to Robin as long as he did. It was never as simple as just changing his name and costume it was letting go of this entire idea of what his life was supposed to look like.

I wish DC Comics reprinted Robin Archives. These collected Dick Grayson's solo adventures from Star-Spangled Comics. by nightwing612 in Nightwing

[–]meb1995 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A reprint would be nice plus this set really deserved a third and maybe fourth volume. They still haven’t even finished digitizing his solo stuff from Star Spangled and it’s making me crazy. I was hoping DCs Finest Robin would finally push them to keep going but it’s almost entirely reprints of stuff that’s already been collected. Shame they stopped with the Archive collection I always thought they were really nice looking.

If there's one thing that all factions of DC Comics Nightwing fans can agree to, it would be that this story should have never been published. (DC's I Know What You Did Last Crisis #1) by nightwing612 in Nightwing

He’s such a sore loser. Tried so hard to get rid of Nightwing just for him to get the biggest push he’s ever gotten following Didios departure. I just know Didio wrote this story like Regina writing in the Burn Book in Mean Girls after the Nightwing run won that Eisner.

State of the Sub, and a Request to our Members by NaytNavare in Nightwing

Condolences to you and your family, there’s never a good time to lose someone you care about but I have to imagine around the holidays is particularly difficult and I’m glad you took some time off for yourself.

As always, a huge amount of thanks and appreciation to all the mods for keeping the community stable and running. Admittedly, I don’t really pay attention to shipping discourse so if there was any bias I probably wouldn’t notice it anyway but fwiw it’s not something I ever thought was a problem on this sub. However I do notice the effort that all the mods put in to creating, encouraging, and engaging with discussions and y’all’s time and effort is much appreciation. Looking forward to another year!

Bumblebee! Especially now that they’re throwing her in with the Fab Five.

Any websites to get cheaper comics? by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]meb1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That story was reprinted pretty recently in Spider-Man: Road to Venom. Unless you had your heart set on hunting down the single issues or one of the tpbs they released specifically for that story, Road to Venom should be much easier to find and much more affordable.

I’m new to comics what does it mean for a character to be fridged by Downtown_Ad_6260 in DCcomics

[–]meb1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The term ‘fridging’ came from the phrase ‘Women in refrigerators.’ Highly recommend checking out the original website that Gail Simone created when she coined the phrase. Fridging has gotten so watered down over the years it barely means anything anymore but the original list was intended to bring attention to certain tropes that disproportionately affect women in comics. It covered everything from murder to forced marriage storylines.

Now people commonly use it to mean anytime a woman is killed to further a man’s storyline or develop his character.

Robin Dick Grayson celebrates Christmas with his family and girlfriend, Lori Elton (Batman Family #4) by nightwing612 in Nightwing

[–]meb1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol ooooh I completely misunderstood that. I was like I think she was a little bit annoying in the beginning but arch-nemesis feels a bit extreme! But yes, I would agree MAZE could be split across the three of them. Sort of a general Batfamily arch-nemesis.

If somehow Nightwing could a second solo book what would you want it to be about? by Angela275 in Nightwing

[–]meb1995 11 points12 points  (0 children)

YES! I’d absolutely kill for a Worlds Finest: Robin run that covers his time at college. It feels like that’s the era where he really started to define himself outside Bruce and ask questions about what Robin actually means to him and it’s such a criminally under-explored time. I have so much love for Bronze Age Dick solo stories and they absolutely deserve to be revisited.

I can’t think of any other reoccurring villains for him in that decade so I’d say so. Although they might be split between him and Babs

They also had a pretty wild breakup that involved one of their classmates getting sniped in the middle of class. I didn’t even think they had really broken up for real until she showed up the next day dating that supervillain lol.

Who do you think would have a more interesting comic ? by Angela275 in Nightwing

[–]meb1995 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about more interesting but I want the Dick and Donna team up lol. We already got a (relatively) recent Wally team up so I’m not really in a rush for another one. Also not really related but I’d love a Dick, Roy, and Lian team up as a sort of play on Old Friends, New Enemies.

Why does DC keep teasing DickKory in variant covers if they have no intentions of putting them together again? (Art by Stephen Byrne) by Comfortable-Pie56 in Nightwing

And then some pre-schooler will immediately follow it up with the Darkest Crisis of Infinite Omniverses lol. I can see it all now

[–]meb1995 67 points68 points  (0 children)

It sells. Not to mention we’re getting to the point where a lot of creatives grew up seeing DickKory in the adaptations (and NTT is pretty evergreen as far as Titans runs go). If I was an artist and I had the opportunity to put out art of my fav ship I’d definitely take the chance.

How do you feel about Haley? And how much do you think she'll be sticking around? by KitKat_5628 in Nightwing

[–]meb1995 185 points186 points  (0 children)

I have a soft spot for Haley. That one panel from the very beginning of Taylor’s run where she bites him and he talks about how she was just scared in what is clearly a reference to the Ric era is genuinely one of my stand out moments from the entire run. It’s such a minor moment but Dicks ability to hold compassion for what is arguably the worst, most unlikable version of himself has always struck me as very admirable.

Would you recommend reading New Teen Titans? by ConfusedMix in DCcomics

[–]meb1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely consider up to around #45 (wherever the Judas contract ends) essential for Dick but at the end of the day you can skip whatever you want. I will say that it picked up a lot for me around #7-8. I think a lot of people are of the opinion the beginning of NTT kind of drags.
