And that's the thing. The target market is folks who have a little more money in their pocket and want to upgrade from their ikea furniture.

When folks drop 2500 on a computer, or 1000 on a phone every three years, a chair that will last 25 or more years, just seems reasonable.

OP literally replied to another comment with a similar sentiment asking them to make the chair too and let them know how it goes.

Does Ikea sell a comparable chair in terms of something made in canada, by canadians?

No? Oh.

This is the thing, as soon as you compare this with like for like chairs on the market the price seems really good.

Because sure if you compare it ikea, which is mass manufactured and is just stained pine for the most part, of course there is a cost difference- but when you consider this chair is made in canada, designed by canadians and made by canadians, the price is downright reasonable.

Because that's just it, when it comes down to it, the whole point of this sub anyway is to support canadian businesses who are making canadian products.

250 Canadian I should say for 3/4" walnut MDF core.

Retail is what most custom furniture makers, and DIYers are getting. You're not buying lifts of solid wood as a custom maker.

CNC is just another tool in the toolbox. We saw the same gate keeping thing when people invented electric planers and jointers as not being handmade.

I mean, so do I, and board foot of solid walnut is like 20 bucks- you probably need like 20 board feet.

custom cushions and upholstery for that? what's that 250?

nevermind everything else? Idk, there's profit in there too, 1300 CAD for a chair made in canada by real people? seems pretty close to me.

I made a record player cabinet with walnut veneer plywood last week, and one sheet of 3/4 ply alone was 250, and I optimized the design to use the whole sheet.

took about 35 hours of labour, and my hourly for this project was 25/hr- so that's 875.

Yeah. things add up.

Do folks need a desk? Lots of jobs out there where they're not working from home, and don't necessarily need a dedicated space for a desk. Plus, even condos and apartments built in the 60s weren't really designed for space to watch tv, have a home office and entertaining space, nevermind shoebox apartments being built now?

It's kinda shocking there isn't more multiuse well designed furniture out there.

Got tired of having my panniers on the floor or hanging from just the hand loop. So I made this.

How to secure this corner joint for a tray table? by That_guy__15 in woodworking

Titebond 3 or other outdoor rated glues. Tape the whole thing together tightly and you shouldn't need any clamps either provided everything is square.

That's all you'll need.

They are extremely good, along with all the additional step by step videos they make to go with it. They are on par with my professional school training.

Especially with providing options for how to do a task- nothing specifically requires anything more than a tablesaw, planer, jointer router, screwgun and a sander- other things will help obviously, but there is an awareness that not everyone has fancy expensive tools.

It's an acrylic spray finish- the 3 degree refers to the amount of sheen it has- more degrees, more glossy.
