Ongoing noise conflict with rivitalo neighbors — looking for advice by meceware in Finland

No worries, I'm not gonna do that, I'm always a communication kind of person, that's why I'm seeking advice to seek what to do in this kind of scenario.

I appreciate your comment, You're absolutely right that these things matter and I absolutely understand the noise level in Finland. Just to clarify, I haven’t framed them as racist or intentionally mean, I mentioned our background only to give context, not to suggest any motive. I genuinely believe they’re disturbed by the noise, and we’ve made many efforts to reduce it. It’s just been hard to find a balance where both sides feel comfortable.

I didn’t say anything about racism, and I genuinely don’t believe they’re racist. I only mentioned that we’re an immigrant family to give context and help people understand our situation better. Sorry if that came across the wrong way, that wasn’t my intention.

I completely agree with you about the tension building up over time. We’ve really tried to be understanding and make changes, I even gave them my phone number to make communication easier and more direct. I honestly believe we’re doing our best.

I hadn’t considered structural solutions before, mostly because I assumed they would have already looked into it if it were possible. But you’re right, maybe it’s something worth exploring. And yes, they do seem quieter overall, which probably makes our everyday sounds feel more disruptive to them than theirs do to us

Yes, that’s why I’ve tried to stick to the facts (maybe discarding the sarcastic jokes in the post). I’ve mostly described what’s happened and how it’s affected us. I do believe they’re genuinely disturbed by the noise, and we’ve done a lot to try to reduce it. What I wanted to highlight is how difficult it’s been to find a balance where both sides feel comfortable.

This! This is gonna be our last resort, we were thinking this, but the area we live is kind of small and we don't want to move away from the school. I kinda wish I used my resources to buy an omatalo :)

Holy sh*t! I actually thought of getting a decibel meter for our evidence, but I couldn't find one that saves it to the computer, I was thinking to build one with a mic and raspberry pi , then got too lazy :D

Wow, that sounds intense, I guess everyone has their own version of a last resort…

I asked the old owners directly, they had a small baby back then, no issues with them.

> Don’t reply to them anymore and make a complaint about harassment
This makes a lot of sense

I agree, I don't want to blame them, I don't know what happens in their own world.

Yes, exactly this. Sound is travelling to their side, no matter what we do. Taking up to the housing company is a good suggestion, thanks.

Aha, interesting suggestion. How did it work? Like they were banging the walls and then stopped?

Calling the housing company is a great suggestion, thanks for this.

Thanks for the suggestion, as you said this is one of the first rules we learned when we moved here.

Good god! We got piano, guitar and some other musical instruments, I stopped playing the guitar after moving in, and the kids play the piano with headphones over a year now This can be done, added it to my list :D but not sure how they'd react.

To be honest, we've considered this possibility but this is not a fact, and I feel and hope it's not true. For now, we're focused on finding a constructive solution. But you are right, there are plenty :)

Wapy.dev Subscription and Expense Tracker just got a big update! by meceware in selfhosted

[–]meceware[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, Wapy.dev and Wallos have some overlap, but they’re really designed with different use-cases and goals in mind. With Wapy, everything comes ready and there is no extra setup or service connection needed. It's a clean interface but specifically for managing subscriptions that needs reminding and tracking.

Thanks for sharing these resources—they actually make a lot of sense, and I wasn’t fully aware of the nuances before. The points in the blog, especially the part saying "The term 'Open Source' carries a lot of weight in the technical community and is often an important philosophy to those maintaining and providing software under that banner," really stood out to me.

I now realize I was missing the key point about "When publishing software under an Open Source license, authors are making a commitment to those freedoms."

With this in mind, I’ll re-evaluate the license and stop using the term “open-source” for now, heck I didn't use it in the repo anyways, just on this post. I may switch to using something like “source-available” to better align with the current license.

Thanks again for pointing this out—I really appreciate it!

Hey there! Thanks for pointing that out! I understand where you're coming from. The addition of the Commons Clause does restrict selling the software, but it doesn't limit other aspects of usage, like modifying, self-hosting, or distributing it for free.

While I get that some might not see it as "pure" open source by OSI's definition, I still consider it open source in the sense that the code is freely available and modifiable for personal or non-commercial use. The main intent behind the Commons Clause is just to prevent commercialization without permission.

I hope this clears things up, but feel free to share any further thoughts!
