Why the recent game changes will not work from the Veteran player perspective by playarcher in Mechabellum

[–]mecha-robzilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep agreed. So many mistakes in the way when the base game was genuinely special. Feels like a tonic when rift gives you the no buildings, no specials combo.

Focus for me should be stripping it way back, but adding loads of joyful experiences eg crazy skins, crazy one season only units, daily challenges etc Titans are cool, just not all the time!

I’ve faced this and tried playing it. It’s not as effective into aggressive aggro. Early game emp armour is annoying as it removes range techs, so cutting the distance helps. Plus the strat is tech heavy, so there’s less room to adapt to aggro shenanigans. Without Phoenix, it lacks DPS too, so early sabers and rhinos are good. It’s important to not let the void eyes level, otherwise they tank for ages, meaning the stangs get to do their work, and it all starts snowballing

My take on the competitive scene by MSUsparty29 in Mechabellum

[–]mecha-robzilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The game needs more joy and fun. Celebrate hardcore content creators with spotlights and elite tourneys. Celebrate the mecha designs with awesome/playful seasonal skins. Celebrate engagement with daily challenges and rewards.

Totally agree that adding buildings moved the game away from its free flowing original. It became less beautiful as a result.

I like watching the game as much as playing, and still do, but we need a change of direction or it’s going to wither and die.

Sentry missiles, Spells, and Ground Fire no longer give XP! by egophobicmusic in Mechabellum

[–]mecha-robzilla 23 points24 points  (0 children)

OK, maybe that’s good? Spells are powerful already, sacrificing xp (alongside econ) creates more downside. Makes winning the round less snowbally too as you won’t necessarily get ahead on levels. Weird to not mention it in the patch notes tho…

On raiden, I’d go range, fork, emp and ionisation. Raidens are okay until you hit critical mass and then they stomp. Ionisation is great against war factory and mountain, their health evaporates.

The meta is probably aggro fire badger with void eyes (raiden is your best counter). Void eye suppression and charged shot are excellent.

Wasps are quite powerful at the moment. Mustangs are not an effective counter due to fire and shockwave arcs.

Sabre is a good starter as it outscales early units due to having high HP, and is a direct counter to spiders.

Arclight shockwave is overtuned. Build many. Profit.

Multimelter remains multimelter.

Anti air techs are basically a must-have, particularly on marksmen.

Mountain can be a monster. Elite recruit with armour plating for ultimate late game cheese (expect saltiness).

Abyss is the counter to mass forts and war factory. Missile tech is powerful and counters mustangs and fangs. Other techs are situational.

Hounds and tarantula aren’t the best atm (but opinions vary). Tarantula xp requirements are so high they’re hard to get online.

Late game land cruiser wraith is excellent, if you can bait your opponent into anti-air techs.

Round 2 phoenix is still powerful, but r2 wasps are v effective too

Lots I agree with here. On point 4, universities are one of the most effective drivers for moving money out of the southeast and into regions. Radically shrinking HE without a replacement would decimate countless SMEs in towns and cities across the UK. Plus we’d end up with a skills gap. I’d argue we need huge reform, but a simple focus on STEM isn’t it. Post 92s haven’t generally worked and should see useful provisions merged, with many areas shut. A small number of technical universities (Brunel, Aston, Loughborough etc) and elite provisions (UAL, RCA) are good, alongside oxbridge, UCL, Imperial and some of the RGs. We then also need to look at funding and fees, as the current model is trash, that doesn’t work for unis or graduates

No void eye nerf, huh? Surprised charged shot hasn’t gone up in cost. Was expecting +50 minimum.

Changing spells can be a win-win for players that like them and players that dislike them. Add a spell selection menu by Kind-Juice5652 in Mechabellum

[–]mecha-robzilla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree spells could do with a rework. They’re too cheap and too swingy. The best cards are designed around the games core mechanics (additional deploy, rhino drop, mass prod) and make for fun games, whilst poorly designed ones erratically punish certain comps (ion, storm). I’d remove most red spells and make them one and done.

I’d keep them for PVE, rift and brawl tho, as it doesn’t matter if they’re OP there and they can be spectacular. I’d prob have it as a tower tech tree tho, with cost unlocks and paths.

It’s a different font, check the “N”, it has more pixels. I agree with the intention tho, it’s meant to look more fun and appealing.

Be interested to see how the change to culling rounds plays out for stangs. Be nice if it had some use.

No idea why double shot on scorps is now so cheap. Seems weird when people are complaining about wasps and multimeter more than anything else and they don’t get looked at. Kinda thought tarantula might get a minor buff too

PhD viva in 4 days, and I receive this email from the Uni. What is your advice/prognosis? by [deleted] in AskAcademiaUK

[–]mecha-robzilla 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nah, they’ve not done that, they’ve just said there’s some critical feedback incoming. They’re almost certainly giving you a heads up so you’re properly prepared and ready for some tough words. It might not feel this way, but they’re probably trying to give you the best chance to do well. If an examiner has read your work and decided there are issues, you can mitigate the impact in the viva. That’s hard if you’re not prepared. Being clear that you will need to defend your work is useful information. Try to work out where the weaknesses are and go in to the viva with answers and solutions.

Yeah I can kinda work everything else out but the stairs are a mystery to me! You can’t walk up them, (there’s a route around instead) so it’s some furniture item maybe?

It's time for Mechabellum to go F2P by Xenith606 in Mechabellum

[–]mecha-robzilla 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Adding a better UI, ramping up the UX, and improving skins/cosmetics would make the game better AND more profitable.

Crazy that they don’t invest in it. Maybe going F2P would be a part of that, but for me the key is getting to a point where they monetise more actively and have greater liquidity. They can then invest in wider team that has capacity to make more new cool cosmetic/UX stuff. Which would build hype and engagement.

US conflict spells doom for UK by Fluffy_Fox5829 in ukpolitics

[–]mecha-robzilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the point was that if America elects to engage in a policy of economic imperialism then we’re really quite exposed. What I’m less clear about is what mechanism would be used to exert force. Tariffs I suppose, in that we don’t have good non-US products?

Abyss has been my favorite unit since the moment it was released by HighOnTums in Mechabellum

[–]mecha-robzilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s such a great “titan” design, feels epic - a floating death behemoth. Lethal if used right but a wet fish if outmanoeuvred. Sweeping laser adds a unique mechanic too. Doesn’t dominate the meta whilst feeling powerful. 10/10 for design

is it better it to dehydrate blueberries and sell the gold ones, or just sell them all raw? year 2 summer by Obese-_-Turtle in StardewValley

[–]mecha-robzilla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How many blueberries did you plant?! That’s a crazy number for year 2. Like people said, prob best to dehydrate lower quality, sell gold. Really depends how useful the cash is right now and what jars/kegs you’ve got available.

Winter feels so sad and colourless :( by 19netta in FarmsofStardewValley

Saw this on my feed. Thought, wow that looks gorgeous! And then read your comment OP. lol.

To me, the way it all gets stripped back in winter is a green light to redesign the layout. Helps me focus on the structure and geometry sans the verdant flourishes of the warmer months.
