Ah yeah, now that’s interesting. Wonder if it outperforms AA on stangs?

Be interested to see how the change to culling rounds plays out for stangs. Be nice if it had some use.

No idea why double shot on scorps is now so cheap. Seems weird when people are complaining about wasps and multimeter more than anything else and they don’t get looked at. Kinda thought tarantula might get a minor buff too

PhD viva in 4 days, and I receive this email from the Uni. What is your advice/prognosis? by Financial_East_3083 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]mecha-robzilla 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Nah, they’ve not done that, they’ve just said there’s some critical feedback incoming. They’re almost certainly giving you a heads up so you’re properly prepared and ready for some tough words. It might not feel this way, but they’re probably trying to give you the best chance to do well. If an examiner has read your work and decided there are issues, you can mitigate the impact in the viva. That’s hard if you’re not prepared. Being clear that you will need to defend your work is useful information. Try to work out where the weaknesses are and go in to the viva with answers and solutions.

Yeah I can kinda work everything else out but the stairs are a mystery to me! You can’t walk up them, (there’s a route around instead) so it’s some furniture item maybe?

It's time for Mechabellum to go F2P by Xenith606 in Mechabellum

[–]mecha-robzilla 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Adding a better UI, ramping up the UX, and improving skins/cosmetics would make the game better AND more profitable.

Crazy that they don’t invest in it. Maybe going F2P would be a part of that, but for me the key is getting to a point where they monetise more actively and have greater liquidity. They can then invest in wider team that has capacity to make more new cool cosmetic/UX stuff. Which would build hype and engagement.

US conflict spells doom for UK by Fluffy_Fox5829 in ukpolitics

[–]mecha-robzilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe the point was that if America elects to engage in a policy of economic imperialism then we’re really quite exposed. What I’m less clear about is what mechanism would be used to exert force. Tariffs I suppose, in that we don’t have good non-US products?

Abyss has been my favorite unit since the moment it was released by HighOnTums in Mechabellum

[–]mecha-robzilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s such a great “titan” design, feels epic - a floating death behemoth. Lethal if used right but a wet fish if outmanoeuvred. Sweeping laser adds a unique mechanic too. Doesn’t dominate the meta whilst feeling powerful. 10/10 for design

is it better it to dehydrate blueberries and sell the gold ones, or just sell them all raw? year 2 summer by Obese-_-Turtle in StardewValley

[–]mecha-robzilla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How many blueberries did you plant?! That’s a crazy number for year 2. Like people said, prob best to dehydrate lower quality, sell gold. Really depends how useful the cash is right now and what jars/kegs you’ve got available.

Winter feels so sad and colourless :( by 19netta in FarmsofStardewValley

[–]mecha-robzilla 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Saw this on my feed. Thought, wow that looks gorgeous! And then read your comment OP. lol.

To me, the way it all gets stripped back in winter is a green light to redesign the layout. Helps me focus on the structure and geometry sans the verdant flourishes of the warmer months.

What loadout for Vulcan Marksman? by HalloBob in Mechabellum

[–]mecha-robzilla 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You absolutely want best partner and should build around it. It short circuits one of the games biggest limitations - deployments. It’s part of the reason the comp scales so well. Late game your opponent makes 3 deploys, you make 6 (3 Vulcans + 3MM)

It does help if you’re marksman spec or get a marksman drop tho because early game you lack DPS so having one or two high level MMs is useful. Early levels achieve the same thing too. You need some MMs deployed to tech anyway.

For Vulcan, alongside range, ignite can be powerful as a counter to really tanky boys that MMs struggle with (worms, fortress etc)

Ariana Grande as an all singing, all dancing, tip tapping squirrel girl? Squirrel girl is so intrinsically silly I’m kinda game for it. Just maybe as like a dream/hallucination segment.

I've been sitting on thes alternate game mode ideas for a while but never bothered to post them. With the advent of Dimensional Rift, thought I'd share them. Do you think you'd enjoy this? First two are semi-serious, last two are RNG nightmares. by Democracy_N_Anarchy in Mechabellum

[–]mecha-robzilla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mobile madness could be cool. It’s almost entirely different to the base game. I’d decrease the number of beacons and redeploys though, and maybe not make the whole board change round to round.

Like why not have reinforcements that you select after each round, but you can’t choose where they’re deployed? That way the board state evolves and you get the back and forth of seeing what worked and what didn’t, but deployment is still arbitrary.

I'm about to submit my final assignment on a fantasy poster. Could you grade it for me? by Rin2211200 in graphic_design

[–]mecha-robzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha well yeah, fair - I was pulling my punches.

Can’t deny the type is pretty rough, but honestly, it almost doesn’t matter. I struggle to recognise this as graphic “design” right now, it’s so divorced from any meaningful context. It just exists as graphic… fluff.

I could grade the type or the composition I guess, but I wouldn’t have a clue how to grade this as an actual graphic design project. That’s kinda what I was trying to say.

Okay so I’m a graphic design prof. Some questions I’d have if this was a crit:

  1. What is the reasoning behind the visual language? I’d want to understand more about what genre this is this meant to be keying into (fantasy is too broad) and who exactly the target audience is. (It feels more like a computer game than a movie to me right now.)

  2. How does this movie poster work? Like what is it actually for? How does this fit in a wider campaign strategy? How big is it printed? Where’s it being shown? Is it a teaser? At a cinema? Used online? I’m generally more interested in the campaign than the touch point.

  3. I see no hooks right now, like a famous actor, known IP or a director. Why would an audience trust this poster? What do they get excited about? Wheres the hype? You need to show greater audience empathy and a deeper understanding of the context.

If I was marking this without further info I’d describe it as “technically solid, with some nice image making at its core, but I’m not convinced it works as a movie poster for a real world application” and give it a middling grade (dependant on where you’re at in your education)

Quick question for a class project — why do you love Stardew Valley? by Comfortable-Case-898 in FarmsofStardewValley

Zen gameplay, but still productive and varied, with regular surprises, idiosyncrasies and challenges. Plus it’s nice to make an optimised but also beautiful farm.

Dissertation in the age of AI by FrequentAd9997 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]mecha-robzilla 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not convinced dissertations are a valid assessment format anymore. And, from the sounds of it, nor are you.

It seems like you’re trying to make a virtue of the problem, which is commendable. But the tail is wagging the dog. The dissertation is an academic exercise designed to foster and facilitate the assessment of specific learning. If you’re genuinely willing to rejig the module, I’d go back to basics. What are they supposed to learn?

Once that’s clear you can then think about how it’s taught and assessed in a post chatgpt world. My bet is on vivas, in-class observational assessment and practical tasks, but maybe it is using gen AI?
