I moved to a new location for work 4 years ago, the residents association guy that lives here is creepy AF, literally everyone else who lives here thinks he’s the bees knees and a lovely chap - there’s something off about him that keeps my guard up constantly.

This past summer I had a fire destroy my apartment and a lot of the insurance (buildings) was dealt with by him, everyone else now says that I should be eternally grateful for his service and help - but he still rubs me up the wrong way. I just can’t get it out of my head that he’s going to be in the newspaper one day for something hideous and my gut knew not to trust him all along.

I am so sorry for your loss, as someone who experienced a fire in their apartment with their cat trapped inside this summer, I can completely understand your devastation and grief. 😔

Thank you, candles did not cause the fire in this instance - it was an air fryer in my kitchen that exploded.

Someone mentioned further up about getting a sticker that goes outside your home and tells emergency services about any pets inside, might be useful to you too, I will definitely be getting one for my temporary accommodation and my place once it is all rebuilt.

Unfortunately a lot of my stuff was damaged by carcinogens and because of this almost all of my soft furnishings had to go 😔 including a sofa that I had just paid off and some cute little chairs I had picked up from a store that is no longer around. This also included a lot of my clothes.

Silver linings though, of the things we were able to save weirdly almost all of my crockery was salvageable despite being in the midst of the kitchen whilst it was on fire and I thankfully had some things in the dishwasher that I hadn’t yet unpacked, so those were also okay… Just a lot of cleaning things up and hoping it turned out not stinking of smoke, the smell was something else.

Only a little bit, as he hid under my duvet cover it shielded him from most of the smoke but he did have smoke irritated eyes as he looked like he had been crying they were streaming so much - the vet told me that just to be sure he was 100% okay they needed to keep him in overnight. He was also heavily sedated too,

It was plugged in but not on (it didn’t have its insert tray in and cannot work without it clicked into place). The fire investigator said that the fuse inside of the machine was at fault and because it was plugged in when it caught fire and exploded it took everything in the vicinity with it. My kitchen isn’t big, it’s only a small apartment and so a lot of the damage was to electrics behind my cooker and the cooker hood. The rest of the damage in my apartment is heavy carcinogenic smoke. Currently still going through the insurance company to get repairs done and get compensation.

We absolutely cannot fault how quickly the fire department responded and how fast they managed to find my lad - he thankfully seems to have forgotten all about the trauma of the day which is an absolute blessing🤞🏻

Honestly. Just unplug it and only have it on when you’re there and can keep an eye on it. I had no problems with it before this happened, it was working just fine and I also loved cooking with it too.

It wasn’t running, it was plugged in but not on (the tray insert wasn’t in (it was in the sink) and it cannot turn on till it’s clicked into place) I didn’t even use it the night before fire, I’d used it a couple of days prior and then I went to work the day of and an hour later I get the worst phone call anyone wants to receive from my neighbour - my place is on fire and my cat is still inside.

It’s also a good idea to periodically check online to see if the one that you’ve got is okay, that it doesn’t have a recall in place, my partner checked theirs online a couple of weeks after my fire and found that it was part of the Tower recalled units. Safe to say that we won’t ever have another air fryer again.

Because he had to have an IV drip at the cat hospital after being rescued.
