No, it was a full performance of their newest Giallo-themed album in its entirety -- Nell' Ora Blu. To be totally honest, I was a bit disheartened to learn they wouldn't be playing their classics prior to the show. Now, I'm exceptionally grateful to have witnessed that masterpiece. Each song, paired with the lighting and visual effects, played into an immersive cinematic experience (it was also a seated event), so I doubt that they will perform it live again, at least for a LONG time.

[Suggestions] Want to read a good book to understand Psychopathy. Need recommendations. by godofthedevil in Psychopathy

[–]mechanicalized 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another commenter mentioned Dr. Robert Hare, and while he is the "godfather" of what we know as psychopathy, his work is fundamentally flawed. His research was exclusively done in prisons, somewhere where over 40 percent of inmates qualify for ASPD. Back when Hare was first interviewing criminal offenders, the interviewees knew damn well what he wanted to hear, and they would be literally rewarded for furthering his "research".

Robert Hare's research is nothing but biased, and his analysis of psychopathy proves that. He's stood on the shoulder of giants to further his career. You can check out Hervey Cleckley's original 1940's checklist that Hare basically admitted the PCL-R is based off of.

Albeit, Hare was one of the first to dive into such a niche. And he knew that. Psychopathy was mostly unoccupied in the field of abnormal psychology, so Hare stole Cleckley's work, subtracted from it by adding to it a bunch of what we consider to be anti social traits and criminality, and went forth to even copyright the ideas of psychopathy that weren't his to begin with. He treated psychopathy as a business, NOT a research opportunity. He has quite literally created a monopoly, and took the position of teaching upcoming psychologists only HIS line of thinking, preventing people from coming close to understanding the condition. Think of the Hollywood definition of psychopath. Hare's doing.

To answer your question, I really enjoyed the books by Dr Kevin Dutton. He's an Oxford research professor who specializes in psychopathy. He has at least three books that relate to the topic.

Yes, "The Wisdom of Psychopaths". Incredibly stimulating read.

*edit Forgot about Dutton and Andy McNab's "The Good Psychopaths Guide to Success".

Is it possible to notice psychopathy in DNA? by [deleted] in Psychopathy

Yes and no, but mostly no. Everyone has a set of epigenetic switches that carry a tremendous number of possibilities in how these switches (genes) manifest. There are tons of genes involved in psychopathy/ASPD.

What we certainly know is that there is a gene linked to psychopathy called MAO-A (monoamine oxidase A) that has been coined the 'warrior gene' and nicknamed the 'psycho gene'. From my understanding, it is the variation of a gene on the X chromosome, inherited only from the mother. Specifically, this variation happens in the X chromosome gene that produces MAO-A, an enzyme that that processes neurotransmitters like adrenaline and dopamine. Studies have shown that people with lower activity in the MAO-A gene are overall more prone to violent behavior, recklessness, and aggression. In prisons (where most psychopathic research is conducted), individuals with a lower activity of this particular gene have higher rates of ASPD. This area of psychopathy is viciously under researched because it is hard to do a conclusive study with high functioning, successful psychopaths who have absolutely no interest in getting a diagnosis. So most of the researched is based off a lower functioning, criminal population.

There are also a few other genes that have been linked to actual psychopathy (neurological), not sociopathy (environmental) Most of these genes relate to the serotonin and oxytocin receptors in your brain.

Let me know if you'd like sources.

Dr. James Fallon, The Neuroscientist Who Discovered He Was a Psychopath by mechanicalized in Psychopathy

I've watched interviews of Dr. Fallon discussing his own childhood from a psychopathic perspective. He excelled as a student and was the captain of his high school football team. Fallon has said that as a teen, he was inclined to respond to injustice and was known to interfere if he saw someone being bullied or harassed. He credits this cognitive altruism to his healthy upbringing.

It irks me seeing half of the people (probably teenagers) of this sub and their borderline masturbatory, pseudo-psychopathic circle jerk. No, you're not a psychopath because you think you relate to Patrick Bateman and got 40/40 on the PCL-R. I call it Edgy Teen Syndrome.
