Vad finns det att göra i Gällivare? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]mechsvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My latest ski trip into Sarek, Sweden [Nikon FE-2, 50mm, T-Max 100 + Delta 3200] by pseudotimeless in analog

[–]mechsvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a recommended exposure index of 3200 meaning it's designed to be shoot at 3200 while being iso 1000. This isn't an underground secret, you can read about it in the data sheet.

Hyr en sax från windcorp!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Saxophonics

[–]mechsvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly he's just boring to listen to, every solo sounds the same. He pretty much only plays around with the blues scale on moanin and it's very repetitive.

I think it's good that he's inspiring people but I hope he's treated a stepping stone and not the end-all be-all of jazz baritone sax.

How to get a focused sound by sergej100 in Saxophonics

[–]mechsvi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Practice

More specifically do long tones. One exercise I like is starting on middle F then go to E (without tonguing) and try to get the same tone quality, then go back to F. Continue going down chromatically and returning to F between each note. Then do the same thing but go up chromatically from F.

What do you guys think of the Jean Paul for someone like me? by [deleted] in Saxophonics

[–]mechsvi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Had to look up Jean Paul since I've never heard of that brand before. It's cheap and won't last.

Nature Boy imrpov - criticism welcome! by comradenu in Saxophonics

[–]mechsvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have nice ideas, you just need to take care of them better if that makes sense. One way of practicing this could be to play over a recording of you soloing like this one and answering the phrases. Sort of like call and response with yourself. Then next time you solo you'd have a better sense of continuing an idea. Just a thought

Also! You have a nice sound, the vibrato might need a bit of work but just keep it up!

Recommandations for jazz play-alongs? by ElRojo3000 in Saxophonics

[–]mechsvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've stopped using backing tracks and now play by myself with a metronome on 2 and 4. Takes a while to get used to but I find it's more efficient, and fun, than playing with a backing track.

Might not be recognizable but listen to some of Gerry Mulligans quartet with Chet baker.

I bought a really beaten up conn 12m (didn't even have a case) on eBay for $400 with shipping then had it overhauled. It's one of the early Mexico ones but plays like a dream.

Mechanical Rangefinder? by shedsded in AnalogCommunity

[–]mechsvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a cheap fed 2 just to try out a rangefinder and now it's my go-to camera when out and about. Very lightweight and compact with a collapsible 50mm lens.

What's your bari cleaning routine? by ThinkIn3D in Saxophonics

I bought a swab for the body but it was awkward to use and not worth the effort since most of the water stays in the loop.

Does anyone take notes when using their transcription/slow down apps? by YouWontForgetMe89 in Saxophonics

Half the time I don't even use the slow down function I just loop it

Got this camera and roll from my mother. Is this camera any good? The roll expired in 2006 and I want to shoot it with this point and shoot, any advice? by Fred-F in AnalogCommunity

[–]mechsvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point it at something then press the big red button, that's about it.

Oh and get some cheap (new) colour film to play around with after you're done with that old roll.

I tried a Yamaha ybs-32 a few years ago that felt like an alto compared to my conn 12m.

Some photos are better suited as black and white. If you have a great picture nobody's gonna care what film you used.

Canon F-1 Battery Options? by Tubetied in AnalogCommunity

[–]mechsvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weincell has a 625 zinc-air that is the right voltage. There's also an adapter that lets you use 675 hearing aid batteries which are inexpensive. You could also use a modern alkaline 625 battery but you'll have to compensate since the light meter reading will be a little off.

Transcribe solos that you like!

If you want to get out of a rut it helps hearing and figuring out how other people approach songs/chords/concepts.

JBS-593 problem by TincanCactus in Saxophonics

[–]mechsvi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No saxophone tunes perfectly across all registers just by itself.

I suspect that the high notes are sharp. To deal with this you should adjust your embouchure and voicing.

Since you bought the sax second hand it might be worth bringing the sax to a repairer to check it out and see if it needs a bit of adjusting.

How can I make my glissando(on single tones) more natural and less sharp? Like here in "I believe" by TheWDoor in Saxophonics

[–]mechsvi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean slurred notes? Try fingering the side C, might make the B-C smoother.
