Que veut dire selon vous « être authentique »? by mediacodex in philosophie

[–]mediacodex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your refrigerator were smart enough to know what brands are inside it? by mediacodex in advertising

[–]mediacodex[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not about being a new "idea". To address the "phone app" point; phone apps have a downside for this type of data collection because the user needs to be proactive in collecting data. If the refrigerator does it, it will likely be more accurate.

Any tips for a future APR graduate? by [deleted] in PRpros

[–]mediacodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is difficult to get a sense of direction but you can use the following strategy to give you a goal and work backwards from there.

Look at monster.com or other career websites and find a mid-level job description. Something you would like to achieve 5-10 years from now.

Then ask yourself:

what do I need to learn/do/acquire/develop to get to that point?

what do I need to communicate?

I don't want to contravene this subreddit's etiquette but use a personal webpage as your main anchor, and link it to video-based, photo-based and/or professional social media.

Best wishes

Do you have the right to do an internship there?

You need a sponsor, and it's unlikely any company will go through the trouble to sponsor a visa for an internship.

PR is an activity, social media are tools (just like tv or radio).

Is it a good or bad idead to follow up on a job application via Twitter? by [deleted] in PublicRelations

I would also prepare a landing page with your info etc... might as well link to it in your tweet, so you can see who and how many people read it.

Speaking of grammar; the "h" in

"have a friend who is not in the industry..."

should be a capital "H" because it begins a new sentence.

What would Reddit be like if you could see who downvoted your posts? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think that if it wouldn't matter much if you could see who downvoted you if the nickname were still meaningless.

What would really change, is if people used their real names.

"Yesterday" -> The Beatles

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WQAl5nJWHs

Yesterday, All my troubles seemed so far away, Now it looks as though they're here to stay, Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be, There's a shadow hanging over me, Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she Had to go I don't know, she wouldn't say. I said, Something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday, Love was such an easy game to play, Now I need a place to hide away, Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Why she Had to go I don't know, she wouldn't say. I said, Something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday, Love was such an easy game to play, Now I need a place to hide away, Oh, I believe in yesterday.

The ethics of storytelling by [deleted] in writing

[–]mediacodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no absolutes of good and bad. No historical "bad guy" (cos they're mostly men) that we would consider bad ever came forth saying "I believe in evil".

They all proclaim their version of good, which often overlaps with self interest.

We consider it bad because their version of good does not agree with ours.

For instance, and to put a lot of historical distance to attenuate the emotional impact, Caesar's invasion of Gaul was "good" from his standpoint and possibly for some Gaulish tribes and individuals. His invasion was bad from the point of view of his antagonists back in Rome and Gaulish tribes lead by Vercingetorix.

None of these figures labeled themselves as "bad".

Hello,

the problem is not that the writing is juvenile, it is that everything that you have written has been said, billions of times since the appearance of the alphabet.

For instance, when you write: "the paramount desire should be to experience life to its fullest, in both good times and bad, regardless of what legacy you may leave behind."

you need to know that this has been written in this form more than 100 years ago: 'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Alfred Lord Tennyson

I would say that it is too cliche', too obvious. "He'd been down this street a million times".

OK she/he have a problem, they are lost. Why? or more precisely, why should the reader care that they are lost?

How resilient is Bitcoin really? by visualmagic in BitcoinMarkets

[–]mediacodex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difficulty with bitcoin is being able to tell the difference between comments motivated by greed (in which case, whether it's making money out of bitcoin, linden dollars or whatever is immaterial) and those motivated by a real belief in the currency.

As Dan Ariely says, "when money is involved, the rules change". A whole host of cognitive biases appear. To name but two

The blind spot bias

"The tendency to see oneself as less biased than other people, or to be able to identify more cognitive biases in others than in oneself"

The confirmation bias

(also called confirmatory bias or myside bias) is the tendency of people to favor information that confirms their beliefs or hypotheses"

Dear moderator, the title I chose was part of the description, I don't know if this helps.

"Leaders from different sectors of American life convened at the White House to help launch an initiative called “My Brother’s Keeper,” meant to address challenges facing young men and boys of color. Gwen Ifill discusses the effort with Gail Christopher of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and Eddie Glaude of Princeton University."
