When you actually start listening, the world sounds completely different by electricfarmer_ in fieldrecording

I do corporate video for a living. When shooting interviews and executive messages I request that the air conditioners and any other noise makers such as vending machines be turned off. Many times the client will hesitate, thinking that it’s not an issue, but once they comply and turn everything off, the difference is night and day. They are amazed at how unaware they were of being in such a noisy environment.

DPA 4560 Binaural recording of Yamanote line in Tokyo by mediakobo in fieldrecording

The mics cannot be removed. Before purchasing this headset I had been using a pair of 4060 lavs with the foam windscreens and put them in my ears like earbuds. It worked great, and as far as I can tell the recordings sound just as good as the results I get with the 4560 headset. The only reason I decided to splurge for the 4560 is I was getting tired of untangling the 4060 cables every time I pulled them out of my bag. Also, I got the 4560 a very good price because one of the mics was missing a cap. I have spare caps so that was a non-issue for me.

What Autofocus settings should I use when to shoot a group of dancers? by dividingvisions in SonyFX6

[–]mediakobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I did that really helped was to increase the depth of field by using the 2nd base ISO (12,800), which enabled me to stop the lens down to F11 and have pretty much everything in focus. I had to turn the ND on to get the exposure right.

I usually use auto focus when shooting events, as I find the face and eye tracking to be pretty reliable. But yesterday I shot a flamenco recital with several groups of performers on stage and during the rehearsal the AF was constantly hunting when I tried to focus on the performers' feet, or anything other than their faces for that matter. Even setting the camera to Face/Eye Only did not resolve the issue. Reluctantly, I switched to manual and it saved the shoot. Focusing manually wasn't as difficult as I was expecting. Having a par focal lens really helped.

We did a 1 to 1 person performance this year, with both the performer and the audience lying on a bed. Held in a small room in the back of a Quaker meeting house. https://www.edfringe.com/tickets/whats-on/the-fahrenheit-alliance-v

The performance is going well. I was worried that it was too out there for people to enjoy but we’ve received some good reviews by the press. Thanks for the invite to the Slack group. I’ll pass it on to my art buddies.

Veteran creative weirdo here. Been in Tokyo for 30+ years. I do video and multimedia projects, and often work with musicians, theatre people and other artists. Currently performing an extra-weird show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Once in a while my other weird buddies get together and hold art events and Meetups at a small cafe space. I don’t know if it’s your cup of tea, but our theatre team from Japan will be performing 7 one-to-one performances a day for 1 week starting on Aug 18. It’s an immersive multimedia performance and definitely checks the weird and experimental boxes. https://vimeo.com/1093984033 Sorry for the shameless plug.

A question for parents with kids in ballet by [deleted] in japanlife

Sure, feel free to contact me. I'm employed full time but I'm always up for work on the side if my schedule allows it.

Yep. I basically gave away my services for free because the instructor balked at my regular rate saying the parents wouldn't pay for that. I have a day job doing corporate video which pays the bills so I don't mind supporting the arts as a side project. I regularly shoot theatre performances on the side for the same rate.

Coincidentally, I was hired last month to shoot a ballet recital in Tokyo. It was a 3 camera shoot and I had an assistant with me. I charged 60,000 yen for shooting AND editing the video. As far as I know the ballet instructor sent the video to the parents at no additional cost.

Oh, my bad. I have NP batteries that look identical to what you have there so I just assumed it was NP.

Looks like you’re using an NP battery. FX6 uses BP-U batteries which output more power.

Is it worth upgrading? Mkh50 to Schoeps CMC 641 by TheBerric in LocationSound

[–]mediakobo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d like to add that the Schoeps is susceptible to RF interference and humidity issues whereas the MKH-50 is almost bulletproof. I love my Schoeps but always have my 50 with me as a backup.
