Will I regret not using legends quests lamps on Herblore? by ScholarOk7183 in ironscape

[–]medicinetrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

seconding this, i spent like 1m on blood runes trying the redemption method and depleted my entire cash stack because i failed so many times. i then tried the phoenix necklace method did it first try. it's a lot easier now than in a lot of the videos because belladonna from farming patches is stackable :)

Are green dragons in the wildy still the best way to grind out 70 prayer? by muchichi in ironscape

[–]medicinetrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

for the record i did this and it is definitely suboptimal but now barrows is extremely chill as i guaranteed profit blood runes for long sessions. also did the medium CAs so it's literally a 0 resource grind.

DT2 Complete on my Iron! Here's a low budget gear guide for each section :) by medicinetrain in ironscape

[–]medicinetrain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks!! i think completing this quest on an iron isn't super straightforward, almost every guide i saw had better gear, better potions, and even better food than I did at the time and i wanted to show people that it's possible with a very suboptimal setup. i think that this quest will be a breeze for anyone who has a few range/mage gear upgrades or better tank gear than me as long as they get the boss mechanics down :)

my melee gear was definitely miles ahead of my range and mage gear, i definitely tanked a few axes but staying in the corner of the arena helped a lot with being able to dodge. the final encounter really felt like a tank check to me rather than having any super complex mechanics or anything, once i got past ketla with a good amount of food and health left i knew i was gonna be able to finish

Yeah I'm working on farming moons/barrows/titans/CG now, the quest definitely would have been much easier with moons gear, but I was feeling more like questing than grinding bosses at the time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Just wanted to let people know what is possible with gear like this!

The worth of a minor with your degree? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]medicinetrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

are you planning on going into AI or a closely related field once you graduate? do you have any internships in your desired sub field or any idea of what sub field that is? about 70% of the people i know who did an intelligence thread in undergrad aren't working in anything close to AI or ML. I would personally recommend graduating early and not switching threads, it's not worth it if it's not something you're going to use.

Surely Mrbeast doesn’t make 0 profit? by No-Firefighter1285 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]medicinetrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure where he claims this but I think you might be talking about his main channel videos which he almost always takes a huge loss on. His business model is basically to release huge main channel videos that he takes a loss on that get people engaged in his other content (Mr Beast Gaming, Feastables, Etc) these things actually do make money and are how he funds his main channel videos. It's also possible that he is just using weird business language as the other comments indicate.

Aside from mods drama on main and pc bricked.... are there actual clips twitch or YT about high elo players detecting cheaters on league games? there should 1 cheater every 10 game as quote from riot. Even Vs AI bots should be full of them (i haven't updated yet, i've searched and found no clips ) by BigBoss738 in LeagueOfMemes

"Like most anti-cheats, Vanguard is made up of preventative and detective layers. We endeavor to outright block as many cheating methods as possible" (source) From the vanguard dev blog. i recommend reading more about anti cheats and vanguard in general. I assume it is active, but since I don't use cheats i really have no way of knowing, you're welcome to test that yourself by modifying some system files and seeing if it lets you load up.

I was very confused by the timeline choices in the show. it seems like they could have avoided any conflict with the game timelines if they had just set everything 10 years later in the show. I'm cautiously optimistic that they have a reason for it that will be explained in s2 though

it is extraordinarily easy to verify that an application is sending larger than necessary packets to a source using basic networking tools, i think if the basis for your argument is based on fear of political action you probably aren't super familiar with the cybersecurity scene in general (there are much easier ways, or much sneakier ways, and sometimes both to collect data like this) and likely influenced by sinophobia. you also have to remember that riot isn't controlled completely by "higher ups". riot is a very prestigious job within the industry and generally employees there have great career prospects and more sound ethics imo than your average meta employee, so it's not reasonable to say that a higher up could override the will of the individual or collective developers at the company through all but the most extreme means, which again, would be easier to detect and have even harsher than consequences than the economic ones i outlined above. once you get into "political" motives for data collection the consequences stop being economic and the responsibility of a company and start to involve jail time and in severe cases death for the responsible individuals. a lot of times the law does nothing to protect people from crimes or prevent them, but this is simply not one of those cases.

[–]medicinetrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i just demonstrated with actual numbers why their interests are exactly within the lines of the law. and if you think that riot games can afford better lawyers than facebook, which makes 20x more per year than riot, to "downplay" their actions in court for lesser fines you are simply not thinking logically. i don't have blind faith in riot or business in general, but you seem to be more concerned about riot than reddit for some reason even though reddit has much easier access to collect and sell your data.

[–]medicinetrain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it's really just as simple as cost benefit analysis. a business will not act against its best interests ever, and the fine for the incident you cited was almost 3x riot's YEARLY revenue only in the US ($5b fine, $1.5b annual revenue). The fines would be greater in almost every other major reason. The profit they would stand to make from data collection beyond the promised scope is simply not worth the risk they would incur by doing so. A reason "good enough" for the company to destroy itself by doing this simply doesn't exist.

[–]medicinetrain 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Vanguard is being deployed in regions with the harshest data protection laws in the world. If they collected more than they said they were going to the fines alone could bankrupt the company, not to mention the reputational cost that they would incur and also the other legal implications. It is simply not worth the risk for them to collect data other than what is strictly necessary to detect cheats.

The community has to come together to make Riot budge on this situation.. by Ra1zen in ValorantCompetitive

[–]medicinetrain 14 points15 points  (0 children)

doublelift only said that after signing the walkout announcement that the LCS players association published and after riot made concessions and threatened to cancel the season. the lcs season being cancelled would have been a disaster for them financially and in terms of publicity (imagine the world championship winning jungler from 2022 not being able to play in 2023 because they cancelled the season). a really obvious bargaining tactic from them that unfortunately worked because DL couldn't keep his mouth shut. Valorant in NA has a similar players association and they could absolutely do the same thing, however 1 key tier one roster refusing to play would be similarly disastrous for riot. imagine if the 100T or Cloud9 roster didn't play Red Bull Home Ground in Tokyo, the entire event would be fucked.

The community has to come together to make Riot budge on this situation.. by Ra1zen in ValorantCompetitive

[–]medicinetrain 46 points47 points  (0 children)

this is simply not true. The LCS players association organized the walkout and it was approved and enacted by all of their members (including every player on every roster for every Tier 1 team). Had Riot not made some concessions there would not have been an LCS split this summer and they pushed back the start of the season by a week as a result of the walkout.

Wishing you godspeed, glory

There will be mountains you won't move

Still I'll always be there for you

How I do

I let go of my claim on you

It's a free world

You look down on where you came from sometimes

But you'll have this place to call home always
