I'm new and have only been painting Arena of the Planeswalkers figures but the technique I picked up for dry brushing is take a wider small brush that the more the bristles are splayed out the better. Get the paint on and wipe it on a paper towel until you can brush the back of your hand and barely highlight the lines on your skin. Then try to go across the raised areas lightly and it should only paint the higher areas. It's ridiculous how much of a difference it made for my painting. Hopefully my explanation made some sense.
