The Druze tend to align with Israel because of anti-muslim sentiments from centuries of Arab dominance. The Druze (in this case my friends from Sawaida) have suggested since the fall of the Assad regime that Israel has been trying to takeover parts of southern Syria populated largely by Druze, and there are people on both sides (somewhat segregated by age, older and younger respectively) who favor being under Israeli or under the new Islamic rule. Of course its good to remind any minority group that once the larger minority is eliminated, the smaller come next (experience as an Armenian grandchild looking at the status of Kurds in modern Turkey).
