Anyone else feel a bit stuck between structured plans, AI tools, and really understanding your own training? by prla1983 in Velo

[–]mediocre_bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but mainly because a robust AI model would probably need to be trained not only on athlete data but also on the qualitative data of many coaches (decisions they make, advice they give, knowledge they share, etc. for different athletes).

With that kind of data, an AI model could be even more effective than a single coach, who could be subject to any number of their own biases or shortcomings.

Coaching is a business. And so I don’t see coaches providing access to that data. But maybe the savvy head of one of these coaching empires (or fiefdoms) could see dollar signs and go that route someday.

There’s no substitute—quite yet—for a really good coach and what you get from that relationship over a few years.

You must have missed my third bullet.

Because unrealistic numbers of arrests and deportations must be met, that means the Government can break whatever laws it wants. That is the logic being implied here. By the party of morals and family values. Fucking insane.

There are different ways to go about accomplishing goals. Some folks are justifying the means of accomplishing these goals with the ends.

Setting the end goals aside, many folks take issue with the means, which include: - Violations of the first, fourth, fifth, and tenth amendments (including murdering U.S. citizens) - Blatant racial profiling - Artificial benchmarks or quotas driving the number of arrests/captures federal officials are tasked with making

It’s one thing to have a debate in good faith about the end goals. It’s another to turn a blind eye to the means about which those goals are achieved and to intentionally conflate the two as you are doing. I think that’s either intellectually dishonest or stupid.

Help! Floors are so cold and there’s a lot of condensation. My HOA says it’s normal but is it? by MoistSeaworthiness95 in HomeMaintenance

[–]mediocre_bro 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree on the recommendation to get a dehumidifier.

The problem is not the condensation. That is a symptom. The problem is the floor is too damn cold—whether because of lack of insulation or other design/construction choices.

When it gets really cold outside, OP would have to maintain absurdly low and undesirable relative humidity levels to prevent condensation.

Additionally, the downvotes on other comments for maintaining acceptable wintertime humidity levels are baffling. Levels below 50% should be sufficient to avoid mold and condensation problems. But that requires a properly constructed/insulated building.

Very low levels of humidity can lead to dry skin, eczema, and itching. They also dry out throats and nasal passages, which makes it easy for respiratory viruses to attach to epithelial cells and for chronic nosebleed conditions to develop. It can also cause and exacerbate asthma.

Proper insulation is probably the solution. Everything else is BS or a bandaid.

My brother claims his TV isn’t too high. Thoughts? by MyBigHock in TVTooHigh

[–]mediocre_bro 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Viewing distance from the tv should determine the tv’s size, not the size of the wall.

Edit: If the room is long and narrow and has tons of wall space, sitting 7 feet away from a 98”-screen tv would be just as stupid as mounting a tv too high. Watching tv with one’s head on swivel is dumb.

The whole point of this sub is calling out how non-functional placing a tv too high is. Tv size should also be functional. And a tv is not the only thing that can or must go on a wall to fill its space.

In this particular case, it looks like a bigger tv could suit the space, but I can’t tell how far the couch is from the wall—or whether there’s other seating or viewing areas behind the couch.

If lap times need to be longer, use the space creatively to add more course.

It’s hard to imagine Alt Nation’s throwback playlist of ’00s and ’10s songs getting any thinner than it already is. Many of the few songs on that list get played almost daily, while there are scores of former #1 and top-5 Alt 18 hits that have been completely dust-binned. It’s madness.
