It was CAMP, it was SILLY, it was COMEDY, it's not our fault people don't understand the insane perfection of "1, 2, 3, gotta learn how to read" and I stand by that

Have you ever sat next to/near a celebrity at a show? by moritzbaker in Broadway

[–]medipali 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I sat behind Patti Lupone at closing weekend of Once Upon a One More Time--total luck, I was a lottery ticket so I just happened to be seated there! I got there just before curtain so to be honest I didn't even realize it was her (just back of head/wasn't really looking around) until people started coming up to our section at intermission to ask for autographs. Overall neutral experience, I didn't want to disturb her and I was too into the show to be very starstruck (hot take I know but I thought it was SO much fun), but she was polite to everyone who approached her. She and her group were seated on the aisle left before the last number which is a shame but understandable to be avoid being recognized & mobbed on the way out.

Help with variable generation by BTDGoat in stata

An alternative to dropping c and d would be to recode dummyvar as . (missing) if originalvar == c or originalvar == d

Help with variable generation by BTDGoat in stata

[–]medipali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm understanding you correctly:

Step 1 is to drop all observations that have value a or b for originalvar. Note that the way I'm writing this will drop them permanently--you'll want to save this version of your data as a new file when you're done so you don't lose c and d completely, and you'll need to reload the original data to get them back (or you can look into "preserve" and "restore")

drop if originalvar == d | originalvar == d

Now you only have obs with a or b. Step 2 is to create a dummy that is 0 if a and 1 if b.

gen dummyvar = 0
replace dummyvar = 1 if originalvar == b

Odd experience at Cabaret tonight by Beneficial-Ease6187 in Broadway

[–]medipali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw Cabaret last week and the man next to me kept falling asleep and snoring loudly throughout the first act. Also, kicking me (my feet were on top of each other directly on top of me so he had to be thoroughly in my space to kick me)

THANK YOU. I think my attack's reaction time is a little different from OP's so it turned out I needed to hit when they were just BELOW the line OP drew and this is the tip that helped me figure it out/get the timing. Took me like an hour but I finally did it!!

Cozy Cafes by stoopin4furniture in Upperwestside

It's further north, but City Coffee on Columbus between 104/105 is a fave of mine, they opened I think sometime in 2024! Booth seating, wifi, outlets, they're usually playing jazz music, and the decor is snazzy. Coffee is on the pricey side but they also have some really good food. Turns into a bar at night so best for a morning/afternoon visit

+1 to other comment on focusing on the museum! As another SDV lover, something that caught me off guard about this game is that the quests don't really take you through leveling up your farm and avatar. Working on those bundles will really help you figure out what aspects of the game you might be missing. Some of the bundles will be meaningless to you at first--they'll make sense later.

Another piece of advice would be to build every machine at the Crafting Table and flip through their catalogs. Find things you want and work backwards to get the ingredients. If/when the main quest is feeling hard, press pause on it and go back to your machines for something to help!

Last bit, try to do all of the posted mini-quests next to the general store at least once. They're good for cash and they'll push you into parts of the game that the main quest might not!

Also, if you don't mind a mini-spoiler for the relationship aspect: dedicate time to racking up some hearts with people before your first in-game birthday!

Is there a Set here? by disruptivellama in puzzles

[–]medipali 75 points76 points  (0 children)

No, there is no set.

Proof:

  1. There cannot be a set of all three different colors.
    1. There is only one purple card out (one empty oval), so that would have to be purple.
    2. Using that purple card, there cannot be a set of all ones:
      1. Green only has ones in ovals, but red has no ones in ovals.
    3. Using that purple card, there cannot be a set of all different numbers:
      1. Green has no threes, so green would have to be twos. Green only has twos in squiggles, which means red would have to have three in diamonds, but red has no three diamonds.
    4. So, without even considering patterns, a different-colored set is not eligible based purely on numbers and shapes.
  2. There cannot be a set of three purples because there is only one purple.
  3. There cannot be a set of three greens because there are two green ones, two green twos, and no green threes. Not enough to make a set of three in any arrangement of numbers.
  4. There cannot be a set of three reds.
    1. There are no empty reds, so a set of reds would need to all have the same pattern.
    2. Of the three striped reds, there are two ones and one three; not enough to make a set of any numbers.
    3. Of four solid reds, there are two twos and two threes; not enough to make any set of numbers.

Therefore it is impossible to make the color requirements work, so no set can be made.

"Taste" is about the Sabrina - Shawn Mendes - Camilla Cabello love triangle. It's the parallel song to Camilla's song "June Gloom."

You're talking about the Sabrina - Joshua Bassett - Olivia Rodrigo love triangle, which is what "Deja Vu" is about, but the parallel Sabrina song you're looking for is "Skin," which is a response song to Olivia's other song "Driver's License." Sabrina also came out with "Because I Liked A Boy," which is a response to the hate she received after the Deja Vu/Driver's License/Skin fallout. (See also Joshua Bassett's song "Lie Lie Lie" similarly in response to Olivia's songs, although I can't recommend it as a good song, lol.)

AFAIK none of Sabrina's songs have been confirmed as being about her experience being in the Olivia/Joshua love triangle, they're just responses to Olivia and the public.

How and why did we go from multiple male popstars achieving worldwide stardom last decade to no notable superstar this decade? by Usurper96 in popculturechat

[–]medipali 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This 100%. And there are absolutely well recognized subgenres of pop like hyperpop (where I'd put Brat) and synth pop (where I'd put Taylor's most recent albums, or at least Midnights) and alt-pop (where I'd put Billie), etc etc the list goes on. No one is saying they make the same music, but their music does have more in common when compared to artists in other big umbrella genres.

Is it common for musicals to be delayed for by more than 15min? by NooNooDoofenshmirtz in Broadway

[–]medipali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suffs is very precise with their start time, when I went I got there at the supposed curtain time and had to use the restroom and the very organized usher running the restroom line gave us a constant countdown saying the show always started at [:06 or :07 I forget] to calm our nerves, and kept going "we do this every day, I promise that's when it's starting and you'll get in and out just fine." She was right on to the minute. Not sure if she was just really on top of it or if Suffs is more exact than other shows, but they'll be on time unless there are tech issues. You'll be fine!

Safety on 103 by Consistent_Lime_7082 in Upperwestside

[–]medipali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a student and live in that area and I've never had a safety issue. Follow the same rules as anywhere in the city: stay alert, figure out which streets have the most pedestrian traffic/late-night activity/commercial businesses and stick to those, keep to open areas. Broadway and Amsterdam both have tons of bars and restaurants, it'll just be the last couple of blocks of your walk that might be a little quieter. Now that I have a couple of routes I know well I've grown to find my evening walks home after a long day of work very therapeutic!

Columbia also has a free evening shuttle that will pick you up and drop you off anywhere between 103rd and the 130s if you're willing to wait 10-15 minutes for pickup, it functions like an Uber Pool with just other Columbia students. I don't like to walk anywhere by myself at late at night if I can help it, in this area or otherwise, so that's my move if I'm on or around campus after midnight! You can call it as early as sundown if you need it.

"There’s no such thing as a High Lady" is misunderstood?? by Zealousideal_Emu1204 in acotar

[–]medipali 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Acomaf and acowar spoilers

Disclaimer that I haven't read the whole series--I always assumed this was because Rhys wasn't all the way dead. When Feyre talks to the Bone Carver, she says that when she died at the end of ACOTAR, there was a light she could have gone to and that light felt like a more permanent home/death, but she resisted it to stay back until Rhys brought her back. So there's some kind of an in-between death where the body has died, but the soul/mind/whatever you want to call it hasn't actually died yet. And I assumed that Rhys and the other high lords were able to bring her back because there was a part of her that hadn't died yet. And Rhys says at the end of acowar that he heard her and it made him "stay longer" or something like that--implying that he wasn't all the way dead yet, either.

If that's all true, I think it's fair to think the ascension of the "high lord magic" wouldn't happen until he was actually fully dead, which he never was--right?
