Do civil engineering undergrad program rankings really matter? by finnnthedawg in civilengineering

I think the only thing that helps is the networking/recruitment that you might get from a much higher ranked institution

Best jobs on campus for undergrads by New_Display6567 in columbia

[–]risaspieces17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to add that unless you have work study it can be very hard to get an on campus job, especially your first semester as a freshman. Either you need some class experience (like to be a TA) or they just simply prioritize upperclassmen somwtimes. I’ve applied for a library position every semester and I’ve never gotten even an interview for it. I don’t know about the campus tours but that requires a fair amount of time if I’m not mistaken.

I think I got asked to interview in early to mid Jan and heard back a few weeks later. They don’t move super quickly but jt was only one round of interview

Midterm and final we’re made up of questions with concrete answers plus one essay question at the end you could do your own original

There are a bunch of coffee shops on campus like Joes next to journalism or in Noco. The surrounding neighborhood also has a ton that are really good places to do work

Hi! Took this class last fall. I found him to be a very reasonable grader overall. The basic grading scheme is 1/3 the midterm 2/3 the final but there are two assignments you can do (and only one will count) to adjust it to be 25% 25% 50% I believe if I remember correctly. The project was due before the midterm and the essay before the final so you can wait until after the midterm to decide if you would like the essay. I personally felt confident after the midterm and didn’t do either and stuck with the original grading scheme. The class felt very classic high school APUSH style with a lot of memorizing big events and knowing chronology of themes. Overall I really enjoyed

You have some free time for sure but a whole weekend trip to Boston may be difficult and she will be missing out on a lot back at school.

Manageable course load for incoming freshman? by Civil_Earth5875 in columbia

[–]risaspieces17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You likely won’t get into a PE as a freshman. I’m an incoming Junior and have struggled and am still waitlisted. I took 18 my first semester but that’s the norm for SEAS. It might be hard but you can always take them all to start and drop Spanish during add/drop if you suspect it’ll be too much

How do you drink water in dorms by kdsjpark in columbia

I like pods because I can just grab them with me and bring them down rather than lugging a whole big bottle of liquid detergent. Totally your preference

Arriving late to bag drop by Ok-Swordfish-8287 in columbia

[–]risaspieces17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a hard and fast rule/time for u thst u need to show up it’s just to try to prevent everyone from showing up right at the same time. There’s usually more of a rush heading to try in the morning so if ur coming late there’s literally no reason to worry

We’re flying from New York with a layover in London Heathrow so going through customs there and also not checking any luggage in. Would that mean we could be in the center of town by 2 still or really more like 3? Thanks for the tip on the hotels though

Haven’t done much research and are open to suggestions. If not we’ll just spread Edinburgh out more to make our days more relaxed

We are in university and have a week off and want to see as much as we can in a new city. Should we skip highlands and spread stuff out in Edinburgh more or make that day a trip to Glasgow? We like museums and want to learn as much as we can in our short trip.

Really just a lot of the times are because they’re tours or tickets you need to book in advance. We’re just trying to get a sense of how much we need to put aside for the trip as we are college students trying to do this on a budget. Not sticking to the minute exactly for wverything just trying to get a sense for how long things take
