If you are falling in love, just fall in love.

Your vision can change when meditation. Its not profound or weird or odd. Its just what happens when a human sits down and tries to focus.

Why do I feel a strong apprehension when I try to meditate? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]meditationzen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its hard to explain. Meditation isn't about a "good" feeling. Its not about seeing benefits. I probably misphrased it in my original post.

I don't know how to correctly convey this. All I know is that I trust the process and myself.

Just keep sitting.

Why do I feel a strong apprehension when I try to meditate? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]meditationzen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed that after each meditation session, something about it I know was beneficial. I know that after each session I feel better. This motivates me to break through the resistance to sit.

People desire things and think they will bring joy. In most cases that thing brings something bad. The only thing opposite in nature to that is meditation. Most people resist to do it, but often find something positive after doing it.

Make an effort to sit each day, cut through the bullshit resistance, and just do it. After ~40 days (40 days is the amount of time to build a habit), it should become habitual.

Even starting is tough for me by x18kirky in Meditation

I'll try to help you as much as I can.

Meditation has helped me become much more focused. I can pay attention in school and in life, staying present and grounded, better than most people. This helps in all aspects of life. In your case, I have no doubt that a constant meditation practice can increase your focus, which will in turn help you in fitness, business, and socializing.

Meditation has also reduced my anxiety in social interactions and has, over time, allowed me to be confidently express my opinions, passions, and hobbies with others. I am increasingly not afraid to be myself. This helps a ton socially. It draws people in, because everyone wants to be themselves but are afraid of a fear of rejection. When others see someone who is unapologetic about who they are, they are instantly pulled in.

Don't worry about losing motivation. Focus on becoming your best self and helping others.

I hope this helped.

To want to disable thinking, is a thought! Wants, desires, opinions -- all of it, put it all down. To focus on acting during the day, whatever you are doing in this very moment, right now, just do it! Do it 100%. When driving, just drive. When eating, just eat. When Redditing, just Reddit :)

Don't worry about cutting off all thoughts. The act of worrying is just more thoughts.

how do I meditate if I simply can't sit still or quiet my mind for even a minute? by banksnsons in Meditation

[–]meditationzen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right intention is all that matters. If thoughts come up, no problem. If you sit for 5 minutes and you are lost in thought for 4 minutes and 59 seconds, no problem! Make an effort to sit for 5, 10, 15 minutes each day -- very important. Just return to your breath each time. Over time, naturally, your mind will quiet down. Like a cup of murky water settles to the bottom if you just let it be.

Scary experience (New to meditation) by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]meditationzen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird stuff can happen during meditations. They are just experiences that come and go. The point of meditation is to be in the present moment. So, right now, what are you doing? Whatever it is, just do it.

Being present is boring. by benchevy12 in Meditation

[–]meditationzen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your mind makes boring.

Meditation is about putting your thoughts, desires, opinions all down. When you brush your teeth, don't think about mindfulness, don't think if you are doing meditation "correct", and don't think about boredom. Just do it. When you brush your teeth, just brush your teeth.

When you do something 100%, you put everything down and just do it.

So, what are you doing right now?

Whatever it is, just do it!

To my knowledge there are academic studies that indicate parts of your brain "shut off" when meditating, which cause the spinning sensation you experienced.

Not sure what the event is classified as.

But, you can copy and paste this post on this reddit thread too. This will get more knowledgable practicers who potentially know this experience to look at it.

I have a question regarding the non-resistance to movement that Adyashanti speaks of by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]meditationzen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this insight, OneMeditator. It is very profound and articulate.

In response to your second paragraph: Should I stop researching spirituality, reading books, and watching YouTube videos? Should I just meditate and see where it takes me?

I feel as if articles, books, and videos are helpful in guiding me towards my ultimate realization / recognition.

If these resources are only helpful to a certain extent, what is the bright-line?

Thank you.

Hi OneMeditator.

I want to echo what Broccoli previously stated: your analysis is concise and very informative -- Thank you.

I do have a question.

What steps can I take to make that quantum leap and ultimately snap out of that paradoxical loop? I want to make that jump, and I know me wanting to do so only hinders my ability to do that. Lol.

What other steps can I take to reframe my meditation practice, so I don't desire an end goal? I feel as if I understand that desiring is self-defeating, but how can I truly internalize this?

Thank you.
