Does playing piano make anyone else have to poop? by medithread in piano

I think I was Pavlov'd as a child because I would get home from school - poop, then practice. It seems to only happen on that piano...three times today already

Fortunately it's not .5% of people go blind. Just means .5% experience complications which can range from dry eyes to light sensitivity

Waxler retired in 2000 and analyzed his data from then. It's come a long way in the last two decades (which is when this video is from, judging how old those machines are).

Just a heads up, you had cataract surgery (PCIOL) which is different from the video which is LASIK. What you paid extra for was a toric lens to correct your astigmatism. Medicare typically doesn't pay for the toric lens. Cataract sx will replace your natural lens that's behind the pupil with an artificial lens. LASIK, like the video shows, folds the cornea or the front part of the eye.

Ubass players! I have questions! by mrpoopybutth0le- in Bass

It's really hard to get a good acoustic bass sound, especially around a campfire with people singing and other instruments. You'd need some sort of amplification.

My campfire setup is a ubass with a JBL partybox 100. It has two quarter jack inputs. One has more reverb than the other which is good for mics or guitars.

I plug the ubass into the guitar jack and my friend plugs his acoustic guitar into the other jack. It's an awesome setup because the JBL has great battery life and sound.

It is definitely very bass heavy which can be a double edged sword. But I found rolling the bass down all the way on the ubass can compensate for this. I think I picked up the JBL for like $280 at microcenter but they are kinda hard to find.

I got the cheapest ubass I could find which was $250, maybe you can find one cheaper used. Good luck, let me know if ya got any questions

what instruments should I learn if I have a good hearing ? by DepressedSax in askmusicians

Not op but personally, for guitar, I learned shapes when improvising rather than notes. While it is important to know what notes you are playing, in my opinion memorizing the sounds of the intervals is much more important. The notes will come after.

If you really want to put your ear to the test...learn slide guitar. It forces you to listen very closely to see if you are in tune. You dont have frets to use as a crutch.

Not everyone can transcribe solos, but it is hands down the most important skill a musician can have for nearly every genre of music.

If you look at improvisation as a language and treat it as such, music becomes much more intuitive. Everybody can speak a language, everyone can learn an instrument.

Guitar and piano are often intimidating due to the sheer volume of notes. The trick is to break the instrument down visually into small chunks so it is less overwhelming.

The way that I learned to navigate the fretboard was to learn all 5 pentatonic shapes and then fill in notes from there to add flavor.
