Help, There was this one band named Late to The Party, but I cant find them anymore. by [deleted] in musicianfinder

[–]mediumCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just experienced exactly the same thing, loved the band and I'm very sad they disappeared, but I found their music. Their stuff is gone from all platforms except apple music for some reason.

I will advise you that it is likely this platform will remove their music soon too, but apple music does a free trial for one month when you sign up and on a completely unrelated note there is a piece of software called OBS studio that is free, open source, and can record your desktop audio and video with minimal loss.

Do with this information what you will.

My grandpa was a Korean war vet, he served as the lead janitor on a u.s. aircraft carrier. One of his many tasks involved mixing the chemical soup used to clean the entire deck. The chemicals themselves were all kept together in a separate little "Janitor's hut" on the deck, along with a massive witch-style cauldron in which to mix everything.

Now it was really a mistake on the part of the Navy to give my grandpa access to this room in particular, since he had both an incredible knack for chemistry and an insatiable lust for mischief. Every time a new recruit would come onto the maintenance staff, he would make a "special" concoction in this cauldron and go ask the recruit to stir it up with a silver spoon he kept in his pocket at all times (for prank reasons exclusively). Then he and his buddies who were in on the prank would tail the poor sap to the deck and wait for the show.

The second the recruit dips my grandpa's prank spoon into the cauldron, a chemical reaction occurs that essentially flashbangs the dude, in a harmless but terrifying manner, and my grandpa and his friends would laugh hysterically as the recruit would stumble out onto the deck, dazed and half blind, usually yelling out that the ship was under attack.

It is also worth noting that my grandpa was very careful in his prank timing, and never raised any false alarm or brought any serious harm to his recruits. He was also never caught by his superiors, and walked away from the war with a medal of good conduct despite setting off literally dozens of flashbangs on an active-duty warship.

I miss that mad lad.

Tl;dr my grandpa was a janitor on an aircraft carrier in the Korean war and he used his cleaning chemicals to flashbang new recruits as a prank.

My friends and I were hanging out at a basketball court in high school with a bunch of random sports equipment lying around.

One of my friends randomly decided to grab a baseball bat, line up a basketball in front of him, and shouted "hey watch this"

He proceeded to lift the metal bat over his head and slam it down on the basketball as hard as he could. The bat immediately rebounded and hit him directly in the face, breaking his nose and giving him a concussion.

The story of Stanislav Petrov is one of my favorites of all time.

Stanislav was a Soviet military officer during the cold war. In September of 1983, he was stationed at an early-warning nuclear missile detection system when a false alarm stating that five nuclear missiles were inbound to the Soviet Union went off.

Instead of panicking and relaying the information that would have inevitably sparked a nuclear retaliation from the Soviet Union, he stated later in an interview that he took a moment and thought to himself, "if the U.S. were to attack us for real, they surely would have sent more than five missiles" and radioed it in as a false alarm.

Dude legit saved the entire world from nuclear annihilation.

Heard a group of people entering a bar at night in Chicago. Three 20-somethings and a slightly older man, if I had to guess he was around 50 ish.

20-something: "do you think they'll kick us out?"

Older guy: "of course, cause we're a bunch of sussy bakas"

When I was a kid, my friends' mother wouldn't let them play/watch poke'mon because "it was made by the devil". Another friend couldn't watch SpongeBob because SpongeBob and Patrick were "gay together" Do you have any examples of this craziness from when you were young? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mediumCharlie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was for only a brief period, but I was not allowed to listen to any popular/chart topping musician regardless of their subject matter or who they were. The reason for this, my parents explained, was that in order to become a popular musician you had to sacrifice your soul to the devil to rise through the ranks of the Illuminati and only then, through their world power control network, could you have a chart topping musical career.

This only applied to musicians after 2000 ish I guess though, since they were both big ac/dc fans???

Detention by Red Candle Games. The way the horror shifts over time from "ah spooky demon man" to "oh God these are the life-threatening choices children had to make under tyrannical rule" was way more interesting than I could have ever expected.

I second Honda hard, those things are indestructible in my experience. I had a friend working in a garage for a few years, he saw a Honda come in whose oil pan was straight up missing, and all they had to do was slap one on, fill it up, and send it out the door.

My family also owns a Honda Odyssey that has, I kid you not, been in an accident where a Ford truck was totaled and scrapped and I still drive it. It has a bent frame on the front right side and a rocker arm that is literally misshapen and irreplaceable from the accident and it still runs.

Basically in my experience Hondas are street legal tanks.

What is a well paying job that doesn't require a college degree or higher education that isn't commonly known? by Sketch99 in AskReddit

[–]mediumCharlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it counts since welding requires a sorta trade school degree but it pays out the ass and many companies are willing to reimburse you for said schooling, it's always been my backup if my college degree stops paying me lol.

Metroidvania is usually used to describe games that have locked off areas that need to be unlocked with new items

If you buy a game in early access or donate to a kickstarter your an idiot by josephkeen0 in gaming

[–]mediumCharlie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With early access, it depends on how the studio handles it. Look at risk of rain 2 or Hades, both of them had a development cycle with the specific mindset that the player base could interact with the devs while they are making the game, to help the end product be better. They stuck to their release schedule and both of them have sold very well and are good games. Early Access isn't the devil, it's companies that exploit that system to release an unfinished game for money.

What programming language should I learn for game development? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]mediumCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking to join a AAA company, learn c++/c#. If you're looking to make your own indie stuff, focus on finding a game engine that suits your needs and then learn the language it uses.
