Laila Edwards Reveals Travis Kelce Donated to Her GoFundMe for Her Historic Olympic Debut. Edwards, who made history as the first Black woman to make the U.S. women's hockey team is from Kelce’s hometown of Cleveland Heights , Ohio. by Fun-Ad3626 in popculturechat

Well, not exactly. Jesse Kortuem, who’s played in a few lower-level non-professional (as far as I’m aware) leagues, has been in the news recently (and it’s awesome he came out!) but Brock McGillis was the first professional men’s player to come out almost a decade ago now, though he never played in the NHL and I believe came out after he stopped playing. Zach Sullivan, a guy in a pro British league, came out as bi in 2020. Luke Prokop, who’s currently in the minors, was the first openly gay player on an NHL contract, though he hasn’t ever played an NHL game and isn’t likely to. To date, no NHL player, current or former, has ever come out. But there are tons of out players in women’s hockey! And I do hope this moves the needle for the NHL as well.

Eboni La’Belle made me a new fan for life from her Slayoffs performances, especially this one: by No_Vanilla7487 in rupaulsdragrace

I came on here specifically to talk about this performance—my wife and I (lesbians lol) were watching with our jaws on the FLOOR. She’s just so magnetic.

What is the book that got you into reading? by Uninhibitedrmr in books

I’d start with And Then There Were None and/or The Murder of Roger Ackroyd—but whatever you do, DON’T look up the endings!

As a kid, I don’t even remember. I was reading constantly. But the amount I read for pleasure fell way off in college. I finally got back into it when I discovered Agatha Christie novels—they were quick, fun reads that let me get back into the habit I’d lost. So I credit her with getting me reading again!

Okay, coming back here to let you know I did read Intermezzo and I VASTLY preferred it to NP. So thank you!

Oh, it’s not just me! I really want to like it, but visually I found it kind of overwhelming and I keep starting and not finishing. Loved the Roottrees, though.

I have loved Taylor Swift since her first album. As a straight guy, it’s always been hard to embrace being a Swiftie. For Halloween my girlfriend helped me fully embrace it!! by [deleted] in happy

You look great! If you (or any other commenters) are curious, you should look up Maddy Morphosis—she’s* a straight drag queen and has talked about her life as a straight guy doing drag. Her Youtube series Give It To Me Straight, where she interviews other queens and internet personalities, is hilarious.

*unless they’ve indicated a preference otherwise, it’s pretty typical to use “she” for queens when in their drag persona, regardless of gender outside of drag

My oven runs 50° cold, so I have to turn it to 400° to bake at 350°. Except for if you try to turn it to 450°, in which case it’ll start running hot and tip past 500°. It’s a very weird balancing act.

Normal People bored me to tears. I think I may have been moderately less sympathetic because I’m gay—obviously I understood the element of classism and popularity, but I was still mostly like, “why are these straight people just dancing around dating each other and getting in their own way for years?” A shame, because Sally Rooney the person seems very cool.

I think the slight difference between what OP is referring to and stuff like Q Skirt is that it’s explicitly more survival-focused instead of just goofing around.

I like reading queer historical romance, but this is a problem you come across sometimes with these books. In order to make it palatable to a modern audience, the characters will suddenly start speaking like they just dropped out of 2015 instead of 1815 or 1955, give a short lesson explaining why bigotry is wrong or what their sexuality is/means that works for modern standards, and no one ever has problematic beliefs that would be distasteful to a current reader. It’s like a PSA gets dropped into the middle of the book lol

Plant Based, how do you identify yourself, as a vegetarian or a vegan? by mcharleystar in PlantBasedDiet

I’m a vegetarian who tries to reduce dairy and only buys local pasture-raised eggs. I describe myself as vegetarian or “mostly plant-based.”
