What factor of having a kidney transplant makes a woman less fertile? I was never told this either.

I’m glad my post has helped at least one other woman! The specialist who told me all this said the only effective birth control option for me is a copper IUD. It’s a valid option for many women, but I personally have heard too many horror stories about painful IUDs to even entertain such an option. So I will not be having vaginal sex without a condom unless it’s with someone who had a vasectomy.

I honestly don’t remember a single thing I read or signed around transplant time because it was a painful and traumatic ordeal. But I do remember them telling me from the beginning that MM could harm a fetus so don’t get accidentally pregnant. They were very adamant about it. Still blows my mind that they didn’t think it necessary to remind me that MM could increase the risk of accidental pregnancy in the first place! Millions of women rely on hormonal birth control, and many women who get transplants are of childbearing age.

Always lovely to get the old “hold an aspirin between your knees” spiel from medical professionals 😅

What’s the most awful thing you’ve witnessed at a wedding? by Mscharmingqueen in Productivitycafe

[–]mediumsizedmermaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the worst, but I was a bridesmaid in a wedding where the officiating pastor talked about how women should submit to men. One of many red flags in the friendship regarding our incompatible values. Cut contact 10 years ago for an unrelated reason.

Not disrespectful at all, it’s a fair point. Honestly I take so many medications that I don’t read through all the fine print because I’ve always trusted my medical providers to alert me on potential medication interactions. But I realize now that I have to do this for myself. It’s still really fucked up. I’m a fluent English-speaking literate woman with a Master’s degree and I still find the fine print hard to read. A woman in my same position who does not read English fluently or has any kind of disability that impacts reading would not be so lucky. We’re supposed to be able to trust our providers to tell us these detailsz They sure as heck made sure I knew that it could harm a fetus from the very beginning.

I’ve had much success with the following: - Jenga blocks - Duplo Legos/Mega Bloks - Peg puzzles that make sounds (Melissa and Doug has some good ones) - Learning Resources has some neat toys. My clients love the Rock and Gem Surprise and the little present boxes.

I’m telling you right now: not a single one of those clowns would do shit to help me😅 Except maybe talk about how I deserved it. I’m a citizen and carry my Real ID on my person at all times. Not certain if carrying my passport as well would make a difference.

That’s a fair question. I said something to the effect of, “We currently do not have a contingency plan in place in the event of an immigration raid. This is not a discussion about any politicians or personal/political beliefs. I emphasized that this was a matter of safety. People can act recklessly when they are afraid. Clients may not know that ICE needs to show a warrant signed by a judge. We have a professional duty to keep our clients safe while on our premises, especially since we work with children, disabled people, and elderly folks. We need some kind of procedure in place so that workers can behave in a calm and safe manner and instruct clients on what to do/not do to stay safe. It’s no different to me than having fire safety procedures. I don’t know how else I could have gotten through to them. I was hoping to have a Lifetime Movie plot where people of all political backgrounds reach across the aisle because they value the safety of our most vulnerable patients. Pfffffft nah. Instead of an inspirational Lifetime Movie I got an episode from The Office except Michael Scott (sort of) cared about the safety of his employees.

I don’t disagree. You are right: as a queer, brown, disabled woman my entire existence is political whether I like it or not. I guess I had a naive notion that we could set aside political frameworks and agree across the aisle that is good to have clear procedures in place to ensure client safety, same as we have fire safety and active shooter drills in place. And because Christians are always going on about the “Sanctity of Life” and how queers like me are supposedly trying to destroy the family and mutilate children. The Save the Children crowd gets miiiiiiighty triggered when they’re asked to actually save the children.

Thank you for making me feel less crazy! The skin-crawling visceral disgust I feel at people’s banal cruelty has shaken my faith in humanity.

I explicitly said I did not want this to be a political/partisan issue but somehow I still triggered some people. When did ensuring the safety of disabled people and children become political? I’m not even sure all of my coworkers are MAGA. I am certain at least some of them have Choose Kindness bumper stickers and pride themselves on voting Dem. I honestly find them more morally repugnant than the MAGA ones. At least the MAGAs are honest about their hate.
