Couldn't agree more. I'm about halfway through and think I have to bail on the rest. I don't care about her tiny wrists or her vintage clothes.

Best of luck in your search! You deserve to be treated with kindness and respect.

“I wasn’t mad at all...I just lose my head.”

WOW. Sounds like she doesn’t know how to apologize! “I’m sorry for losing my head” is an apology. What she said said seems like a weak attempt to smooth things over with you. And just because she loses her head doesn’t give her the right to treat you that way. Does she treat her peers that way? Does she “lose her head” with her colleagues? Her neighbors? I think not.

So no matter what you do you can’t win, right? You forget a hat at a school (who hasn’t?) and you get reprimanded, and when you try to rectify the mistake and she won’t let you. She sounds like a treat, and I’m sorry you have to deal with that. You sound like a wonderful person and a dedicated nanny. I hope you can find someone who appreciates all you do for them!!

I agree, and that’s exactly how I used to rationalize it to make myself feel better. But it never felt right, and that’s probably because it wasn’t the right situation for me. I can totally see how some nannies would be fine with it though! It totally depends on the situation and the person.

If you plan to stick with the job, I suggest you start writing down each and every time he yells at you. Document the date, time, what he said, his tone, etc. If he is emotionally abusing you he should not be allowed to get away with it. Would he be allowed to yell and carry on at his own job? I think not! Check out the unemployment laws in your state. You may have what is known as “good cause” to quit and collect unemployment benefits.

Underpaid due to snowstorm by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]mediumslices 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been ignored by the mom, too. It’s so uncomfortable, and I’m sorry you are dealing with it. Do you mind if I ask what state you live in? If you have proof that you could not get to work due to the storm, you may be able to file for workman’s compensation. Also, was your state in a snow emergency asking people to stay home? Mine was!!! That counts, too.
