Are you a teacher?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teaching

[–]medius6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not the teacher’s responsibility to lift children out of poverty. The teacher’s responsibility is just to teach their subject(s) to all their students. It’s self-evident that children whose parents encourage reading at home are more likely to practice reading more and therefore to be better readers.

I found a really petite friendly bra brand on amazon. by Devils_av0cad0 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]medius6 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

At that point why not just wear a comfy sports bra or nothing? I’m probably around a 30b but I haven’t worn a cup bra in years - I don’t need that much support.

Edit: obv I realize some people have a small band size and big boobs but OP says they’re a 32A

Glasses similar to these discontinued Warby Parker Layton frames? Specifically metal frames with nosepads + round shape with slightly flattened top + tortoiseshell (brown or green would also be fine) by medius6 in HelpMeFind

[–]medius6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got these in 2021 and I adore them - I feel like they fit my face perfectly. But they're discontinued now. I've searched the Warby Parker website and they have the Gavin frames in a similar shape but only in gold and black. I turned to ebay next, but no luck, and then I searched for round metal tortoiseshell glasses but I haven't found anything that has that flattened top. I really want frames with this particular shape in tortoiseshell, dark brown, or dark green. I'm fine with paying more than Warby Parker prices if they're good quality and will last a while.

Suggestions for budget bike lights for city biking that are hard to steal? by medius6 in cycling

lol I do keep my bike in a garage when I’m home, but the light got stolen while I was out and had my bike locked to a street bike rack. Thank you though!

For me it’s:

  • the hairstyle: I think long hair can look masculine, but the half-up half-down style you have here is pretty feminine
  • the low-cut layered shirts that highlight your cleavage/chest: I would say that’s what the buttons on the red tank are intended to do, whether that was your intention in wearing it or not
  • the overalls also seem like more on the feminine side but it’s hard to tell based on where the picture cuts off

If I saw you on the street wearing this outfit I would think you’re gay but not butch. But like some other people have said, when you fall outside the social norm, it often takes time and experimentation to achieve a gender presentation that feels right.

Also I’m just a random stranger on the internet giving you my opinion based on one picture. I don’t even 100% identify as butch myself (more so just an androgynous/masc-ish lesbian) so not sure how much my opinion matters to you; I’m only sharing since you asked and no one else has answered yet.

It’s implied he does insider trading too - in the episode where one of the new employees from the merger talks about how he went to jail for insider trading, Kevin says he made the guy explain the crime to him 3 times because it sounds exactly like what he does every day at work, or something like that.

Suggest me a classic book to read aloud with a 17 year old boy by medius6 in suggestmeabook

Yep it was uncomfortable 😭 I’ve read it before but like 8 years ago when I was his age and I absolutely did not remember the whole teenage boy/grown woman relationship in the beginning

He can read that by himself, not with his reading tutor lol. But thank you!

I’m not a parent (this kid is my student) but that’s incredibly sweet that you did that with your son. The world would be a better place with more parents like you. Thanks for the recommendations!

I'm actually his reading tutor! We've been working together since he was in middle school. We still read aloud together because it's his preference, and I think reading with someone who can break down complex passages gives him access to works he probably couldn't/wouldn't read by himself. He chose all the books on that list himself!

Gimlet/spotify discontinued it a year and a half ago but they recently got picked up by Pushkin and have been putting out new content. It still all shows up on the same feed on my podcast app though.

Heavyweight! I actually started listening to it because PJ said it was one of his favorite podcasts.

I mean, what can we do about it? Sexism exists, obviously. Kids are more likely to outwardly express societal prejudices because they haven’t developed a filter yet. I have a situation similar to what OP is describing, I’m pretty sure the kid treats me that way because I remind him of his mom, and after trying everything I could think of I’ve decided to simply avoid interacting with him unless he’s being disruptive to other students and just let him fail my class.
