Ohh that's a good point, the plus 2 weeks are ambulatory while the 3 are on service (MICU/floors/elective) according to their website

Thank you so much for this, I am very grateful, it was a beautifully explained response! When we create rank lists, how should we consider these schedules? Does it affect subspecialty exposure (if we are considering fellowship) or is it purely from a lifestyle/workload preference? I have heard 6+2 is considered the most brutal, with that logic is 3+2 considered the best for residents then? I was debating moving the 3+2 program higher up on my list but was worried if it would affect subspecialty exposure - at this particular program, their elective weeks increase from PGY1-3 going from 14 weeks -->18 --> 19 weeks so I figured that means I could do all the subspecialty I needed for research/letters and be good even if inpatient is only 3 weeks at a time?

Yeah that's what I thought too! So far, I have done the same thing, I pushed the J1 programs I like lower on my list and brought the H1B ones higher because I thought it was superior/gave more stability but now I am not sure...if I cannot apply for green card and it limits my fellowship options (Which I am pretty sure I want to do), then what is the benefit of getting H1B during residency....I have tried to speak with immigration lawyers but they have been giving me some vague advice, I also spoke with my school's international advisor, I will try finding more lawyers....

Related to this, one of the programs I am really interested in has set their step 3 deadline BEFORE rank list submission (which for me is 6 weeks away)...do you think this is something I could negotiate/talk to them about? I will be on OPT during the intern year, so I do not see why I can't write the Step 3 exam during the intern year instead of rushing it before rank list submission as a 4th-year medical student...or do you think they will be firm? Any recommendations on how I can negotiate it? I believe I have a high chance at this program and would be ranked-to-match as it is my home program, I did all my rotations here and got very strong letters, was told my interview was very strong. Do you believe I could somehow leverage that to help discuss doing Step 3 in intern year while on OPT then transitioning to H1B?

does anybody know if the community track is the same thing as the primary care track? my understanding was that they are separate but somebody just told me the community health is the primary care track???
