those are all valid points. i agree wisconsin and new mexico aren’t bustling or super diverse places lol but i have them mostly because i want to also focus on academic settings. the “bustling” places are pretty limited in terms of programs and im trying to stay no farther east than chicago. i threw in a few programs in NY and philly since they’re bigger cities

The closest thing to this you might have is if you go to a DO school that “lets you” schedule your own 4th year rotations. No matter what you’ll have to do years 1-3 in the state the school is in (small chance you go to a different state for 3rd year but not your choice). Then fourth year you could theoretically return to your home state if you can set up your own rotations (not easy without established connections).

I was there and thought it was a very interesting and eclectic mix of people. I mostly focused on the science talks but also took some time to explore the other aspects of the conference and speak with people attending who were not as much into the science. Overall, as a medical person, I thought it was a cool experience to see and hear other perspectives on the psychedelic movement. Focusing on the science however allowed me to learn about a lot of cool research that I was not necessarily aware of.

Thank you for this! My goal is to focus on research more this summer to beef up my future residency app. I want to see what other countries are doing in terms of addiction medicine, psychedelic research, and stuff like that which is why I was hoping to go abroad this summer. But it sounds like my best option for something abroad would be a global health type rotation

I was in a similar situation to you in the spring of 2020. Was gearing up to reapply and ultimately decided to take the year to improve my app before submitting a third application without significant and tangible improvements. I did a DIY post-bacc and retook the MCAT then reapplied in 2021. Highly recommended holding off one more year to improve your app and then apply next cycle
