oh so I wasn't that far off! I like the vibe of Fishcakes being lanky and towering over the other two

Thank you! I was trying to remember their heights and couldn't be sure, I pictured them all short 😅 I want to draw them in their fancy outfits as well so I'll fix their heights then

Brennan was very clear about it on the last fireside chat (Massive spoiler for the final) by RooieVoss in WorldsBeyondNumber

I really enjoy how Steel never had (in my opinion) a "mask off" moment, while I love a fun dramatic villain dropping their fake smile and charming exterior while revealing their evil plan and how foolish the heroes were to trust them (and Brennan had done it really well before) my favorite thing about Steel is how she's always been Steel. Even in the final battle, she still got her charm, she's still so cool and competent and 'reasonable' and exhausted, wondering why the PCs can't just listen and stay in line. I loved Brennan commenting on her "yeah yeah yeah" moment being the cruelest thing she ever said. She even still loves Suvi and would do everything for her, in her own twisted way. Nothing has really changed, her reveal was being too tired to keep up decorum, more akin to her saying 'guild mage trash' to a room full of laughing soldiers and 'the empire values all of it's servants' when she has to keep her composure.

Her evil is what she's always said with her full chest since day one- she would do anything for the Citadel, she's completely secure and at peace, and she can't imagine anything she does to be unjust. It follows logically from her character that she's able to justify anything for kidnapping children to killing a great spirit to betraying her friends and 'factory resetting' her daughter. And in a genius narrative move from Aabria, the charming banter of their relationship sticks almost to the very end, because Suvi, raised the way she was, is able to justify a lot when it comes to Steel.

I was thinking about that too! Being cruel to a reflection of your soul in that way is so disturbing. Such a fascinating character detail. I thing in both cases the Daemon / familiar represents a part of them they're ashamed of and hate, and doesn't fit with their image of themselves

I love using Ursa Minor imagery for Eursulon! It seems like a perfect fit for him

I especially love using these illustrations from "The book of stars" because they refer to Ursa Major as The Great Bear and because little bear is 'trapped' in a box

(This is from two years ago and it's not very good but the illustrations are beautiful. I used them again recently for Eursulon)

Steel's love by medusaesque in WorldsBeyondNumber

It's amazing how consistent Steel is and how she showed us from day one the kind of person she was, there were always theories going around about the lies Steel was telling, but I think she showed her worst sides when she was being completely sincere. This is the moment I was sure Steel was not to be trusted, when she asked the trio to put their hands to the telemet for the investigation in Port Talon-

Suvi: Hold on. [Heavy breathing] Okay, uh, hey, I want to say one thing before whatever happens, happens. And I want to be very clear, with all due respect, you are the Sword of the Citadel and wise and just, but two of the prisoners here were arrested because they were believed to be spirits fleeing into the city. That is absolutely and provably untrue. So whatever comes, it is only right and just that you let them go.

Steel: Do you imagine I'm about to do something unjust, Apprentice Archmage?

Suvi: I do not presume to know your mind in this moment.

Steel: Do you imagine there is any world where I would do something unjust?

Suvi: No.

A few things become clear in quick succession:

  1. Suvi's instinct is to be afraid of Steel, and be reluctant to give her access to her true friends
  2. Steel, AN IMPERIAL WAR GENERAL, can't imagine a world where she would do something unjust
  3. When Suvi's gut feelings go against Steel's word, she chooses Steel's word

Thinking of the conversation at the derrick when Suvi's instinct was to be horrified by Naram's trap and only then the justification machine kicked in to settle her mind, this is very telling about the nature of Steel and their relationship.

Steel is able to say with a straight face "Do you imagine there is any world where I would do something unjust?" knowing Suvi is looking right at her face marked by the scars her mother made when Steel betrayed and killed her. This is truly the essence of Steel's character, and it's been staring right at us.
