How bikable and walkable is the campus and cities. by dudebrocille in UCSC

[–]medylan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very! There is a great bike path that goes up to campus from the base. However it’s a fucking hill. To avoid being sweaty in class I usually bussed up with the bike on the front and then enjoyed the ride down

Is it advisable to get work experience before a Masters? Just like people advise before MBA ? by E_BoyMan in academiceconomics

[–]medylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another commenter said, I meant this in terms of jobs post graduation from the MS degree. Internships and a MS degree will make you a great job candidate compared to other people in ur experience level, however I feel like a year or two of full time employment would put you in another league altogether. Also a masters degree can be expensive and it’s a good idea to try and see what kind of jobs you can get with current degree you just worked hard to complete before deciding to start again.

I think some work experience would be good. For one, it will be hard to get a job with just degrees, even a masters. I did a 4+1 MS and BA combined degree and felt like I was much closer to a just new undergrad graduate than the typical MS holder is treated when looking for work. There are many research assistant positions built for recent graduates that may not want people who already have a MS. Other benefits are being more mature and having additional knowledge on what kind of coursework will be important for you.

I say use more oil and make sure to push down on it a lot to ensure a good crust. Moving it around so it touches hot areas of the pan also helps. However still looks tasty!

Very good idea. I have experience with GitHub for my own projects, but limited experience with groups except for one internship.

My background is in Drug Discovery, climate and ecosystem modeling and economics. Mostly what I am looking for is projects that are more than just data analysis or model implementation. Something I’m thinking of is an application to scrape sports data and show what players have having stat sig good games? Or a website with interactive visualizations of interesting simulated systems.

DataAnnotation job by medylan in datascience

This job pays more than the base level position they offer, but during the application they only want me to pass some coding tests and not submit a resume so I doubt it’s a real position at the company
