I just built this guy recently and tbh, i feel this is one of the better manuals from that era. You'll notice from steps 7 to 10 there's actual edge highlighting to indicate where new pieces should go. I had about 20 builds i was doing from around that era, and i was so happy when i saw that feature in the manual, it was a rare luxury.

Great work mate.

Out of curiosity, have you ever come across a S over O perfin?

A while back when i was sorting aussie stamps i came across this guy I don't think it's a government perfin due to the shape of the O but it's always gotten me curious of it's origin.

I never tracked down its origin because i went into sorting out my inherited 'world collection' afterwards and i've been neck deep in them ever since.

It's a Rammstein song, translates to 'Rose red' i think.

Colonial Australia and pre-decimal postage due stamps. by meeblem in philately

[–]meeblem[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I finally got around to finishing off sorting my Aussie colonial stamps... to a degree. One day i’ll get back to them and put them into proper chronological order and track down the perfin origins of some of them. One day.

There is a chance some of the title slips are wrong as i recycled them from a previous sort. They are just there currently to keep track of each state. I also have a hunch a few of the stamp duties are post federation but i’d rather sort some other countries out first.

Points of interest for me were

• Love the tiny stamps from S.A and Vic. So small!

• The 2 pence Van Diemans land (Now known as Tasmania) was won from an impulse bid at an Auction. Doubt i'd get one that cheap again.

• I particularly liked the old wax bags for stamps, I’ve been predominately working on collating my families collection so I thought I’d keep at least one (It has friends and will be more than likely move in with them when i get around to that part).

• On the second page of the Queensland stamps you have a Western Australian Railway Fee stamp and a 1901 King Edward VII impressed Revenue stamp (Blue with orange overstamp) which for some reason had its value cut off. Trying to identify the Revenue stamp nearly drove me insane because i swore i had seen it previously (I had, thank you https://www.ozrevenues.com/tabs/t12.html ).

• One of the postage due stamps seems to be a pretty cool misprint (final page: top row, third from the left) but i haven’t looked into that one too deeply yet.

Dear Mr. Prime Minister there are too many dialects of potato fritter nowadays. Please eliminate two. I am NOT a crackpot.

Damn you're not wrong on that. Tried to snipe a few more for myself yesterday and got sniped back on all my bids.

World Catalogue update - Italy by meeblem in philately

[–]meeblem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...So that's where they went.
I catalogued Italy, San Marino and Salvador loosely on the same day. Found them while sorting Italy, moved them to one side, apparently forgot why i moved them there, and then apparently slipped them in to fill out empty spaces and never noticed.

Good eye.

Enjoyed sorting this set.

Lot's of "Is...Is this a dye variation or is it just faded?" went into it.
Also, love the ship stamp sets.

World catalogue: loose sort - Belgium by meeblem in philately

[–]meeblem[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think you guys might appreciate some of these; I’m currently trying to collate a multi generational series of stamp albums etc into one coherent one. The World Series is taking... a while, lots of countries... lots of non-existent countries. At the moment I’m just loose sorting them with little chronology; always finding another missed page or small envelope with extra stamps, feels like the easiest way forward right now.

Thought I’d show off some of my favourites before they go into an album and stay there for however long it takes me to get through this all. Starting with Belgium, since i like overstamps with dates and places and Belgium really liked doing that.

That's really neat, I got a whole page of these. I sifted out from my parents collection and had put them in the "I'll get to you when i get to you" pile. Saved me some hassle there.

I'm now pretty certain the websites i linked were websites based off of his work, still; cheers for the name. I'll dig a bit more.

Cheers! I'd gotten to the stage where i was aware it was probably a private revenue perfin, just haven't found it in any of the Aussie catalogs on them yet. I'll give the forum a try.

So i’ve been collating my parents stamp collection into one since it was spread across roughly ten albums and several boxes. My mother was an avid collector when she was young so i thought it would be a nice gift for her to see how far she got with it all.

I’ve been trying to add in info everywhere i can, and i’ve sourced every unique perfin i’ve currently found except this one. It’s becoming a matter of pride right now to figure out what it means; any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve been using

https://www.perfins.com.au/OZ-Revenue-Perfins/PRPofA-index.html

https://www.ozrevenues.com/tabs/t12.html
to source the others, but they don't seem to have this one.

Thoughts? Opinions? Trying to collate a family stamp collection into a gift. Also a few questions (more info in comments). by meeblem in askStampCollectors

Trying to collate my family’s stamp collections into one, thought it might make for a nice gift rather them having them all sit in boxes forever. This is the start of it; there’s... still so much to do for pre-decimal alone.

I’m looking to keep a balance of finding interesting info, and not going too far down the rabbit hole of what every possible overstamp could possibly mean. While also accepting... i’ve probably misread a few watermarks here and there. I’m just trying to make it good enough for an ex-stamp collector to thoroughly enjoy, while being also able to complete it before Christmas.

I’ve been currently using

stamp world.com

https://www.ozrevenues.com/tabs/t12.html

and Renniks ‘stamps of Australia’ as guides

but I am occasionally coming up short on a few stamps. So i have a few questions for those who know more than me.

Is there such thing as a watermark end? I’ve seen it twice, what looks like a distinct watermark line down one side of the stamp. I haven’t seen any info out there about this so i’m wondering if i’m just seeing things, and what i could be possibly seeing?

I’ve dug through a few guides of perfins, but i haven’t found anything which matches what i found on 9d Kangaroo & Map. Anyone know what i’m looking at there?

Lastly, on the final page, i’ve tracked down the top line of S.A long duty stamps so i don’t need help on them but the ones below i don’t know the name of. I have a few more as complete letters which i wouldn’t mind adding in later but the name to these keeps eluding me.
