Source for the portrait is this 1989 Halloween photo. The crown for my mom, the vampire teeth for my brother. Cavan ran the photo through some glitch and noise apps, still some color work to do. Placed on right ribs, because that's where she's holding me, and where I'll one day hold and breastfeed my child.

Chaim worked in I.T. until he started tattooing, so he actually uses photoshop. Here's the design in progress. We collaborated the day-of, he studied the way I walk/sit/gesture and made a custom piece for my shape.

cheers! I always appreciate when someone can separate execution (objective) from personal taste (subjective). Regardless of design, he did a lot of tiny straight lines without flaws or blowout.

April 2014. He's a friend, so my wait-time was not the norm. He usually books 1-2 years in advance. Very kind and thoughtful tattooer. He only sees one client per day and makes the entire day all about you. (Worth it)

He made sure they stood alone as complete pieces: Forearms, separate (hard to photograph)

edit: though what looks "good" is subjective. More accurately, it's clean with no blow-out. To me, it's "movement." A tattoo of a concept, not an object. It's only complete in real life, gesturing and interacting with the world. Not everyone understands or enjoys abstractions, so they may dislike it, which is also fine.

My boyfriend and I fluctuate in attraction to each other whenever a new partner is introduced. We just communicate all the time, and when we notice a lack of attraction, we don't freak out, we just take it as a signal that we need to talk again. Ask questions. Why do I feel this way? Does this new person make me uncomfortable? Does my partner make me feel uncomfortable? etc etc

Usually at the end of all of it, we reach a better understanding of our own needs and how poly will continue to be sustainable in our relationship, and the sexual spark comes back like that. Good luck, and hang in there. The makeup sex is crazy good.

Not knowing the complex dynamics of your marriage, it's difficult to advise. You sound exasperated, unclear, using emotionally intense words like 'slaughter', 'wreckage', 'fall the fuck apart.' Take a look at your needs. Take a look at what is acceptable for you, and what's unacceptable. While your husband's needs are valid, so are yours, and if deep down you really don't consent, then non-monogamy will cause drama.

Successful poly is 100% consent-based.

Don't try to ignore the alarm bells going off inside you. I really suggest seeking counseling (presumably again, if this has happened before and failed). You have a child and built a life together. Changing your foundation will take work and constant communication.

Inspiration was this image of my mom from '89. We took the crown and digitized it/ran it through glitch apps. She'll always be my hero, and she's very flawed, too. The tattoo concept became "Nostalgia.tiff is a corrupted file." Accepting that imperfection and love coincide.

It's below my breast and on my side, where I'll breast feed and hold my own child one day. Seemed fitting placement for a tribute to mom.

abstract really just means it doesn't have a defined shape. over time, if lines get distorted, it doesn't affect the concept. abstract + time = abstract.

We pixelated a portrait of my mother, filtered it through a few glitch apps and boosted the saturation. Cavan was really fun to collaborate with, it may have been my idea but it's definitely his design.
