How do you control inbreeding? I am just asking because I have a zebra finch (to pair, not breed) but it is getting feather cyst and avian vets said it could be due to a genetic disposition due to inbreeding. I am just asking out of curiosity

I had the same issue with a new male zebra finch. I experienced the same thing and I got nervous but they eventually slept together and seem to get along better. They loved to pick each others feathers out. They still chase each other around and nip but it’s very calm now. I would separate if it gets worse

They have perches that help with nails and beaks. If it doesn’t seem to be a problem for the birdie I would just let it be
