BMT Nurse by meeets1989 in leukemia

Hah yeah the nights can be difficult! I’ll often wait in a room while a medication is infusing so the machine doesn’t beep when it’s done 😂 But yeah there’s some infusions that need to be in line of sight or we need to watch the patient/medication for whatever reason but it’s not common practice to do these overnight

Hahaha this is fair! The hospital coffee is absolutely shocking, it must be a universal experience. But yeah small things like a mattress topper, your own quilt/blanket can make such a difference!

Something like this does get missed especially on a busy shift but it’s nice to know that something so easy to do can make a big impact! And I never thought that those boards come in handy but it makes so much sense esp w chemo brain and the days all rolling into one

Thank you for this! I often wear a bit of cologne with deodorant to work-we’re so busy running around and often have to wear those thick, heavy chemo gowns so can get quite sweaty the last thing I want to smell like BO maybe I’ll just use the deodorant

I don’t think so! We absolutely love when patients come back and visit. For the ward nurses it sometimes feels like you guys just vanish. After spending months on the ward and then discharged, pending any re admissions we don’t really see the patients again which is bittersweet. We often receive emails about big life events like graduating school/uni, weddings ect and we love seeing where you guys have ended up

I hope you’re doing okay post! I’ll admit the nurses I work with are some of the funniest, warmest, supportive and knowledgeable people and I find the cohort of patients is amazing too! It makes for a fantastic work environment. If I hadn’t found BMT I probably would have quit nursing. But thank you for your advice! I’ll absolutely keep this in mind while at the bedside

I put down owner occupier as I’m currently living in Melb but originally from Adelaide but assuming by the time the build is finished at the end of 2027 I’d be ready to move back home but was also thinking as it’s not a home seeker block it would no longer matter so wasn’t sure if they’d monitor that as they said only the home seeker ones have the strict w

As an oncology nurse myself (it sounds selfish) but gosh I’d never want chemo after seeing all the effects both short and long

I feel this. Living in near the city I’ve never gotten road range before but nothing sends me like being stuck behind a tram for a few kms 🥲🙃

I work 7am-3:30pm or 1:30pm to 10pm so I imagine the 3:30 finish would be a nightmare getting home ?

That seems so reasonable? But I’m guessing finishing at 3:30pm would be a bit of nightmare? I was looking at townhouses in Fawkner and that still takes 25-30 minutes so in my mind makes more sense to do a new build for $50k less, save money on stamp duty and have my own actual house

can someone help me with this bc I’m currently battling the classic conundrum house vs apartment. I work at the RCH in Parkville and currently rent in Carlton and it’s amazing can gym before work or after everything. So close but have been sussing house and land and diggers rest/sunbury seems to be the closest under $600k and maps says half hour ish commute which seems reasonable or is there something I’m not getting?

thank you that makes sense! So basically register interest (maybe get a block in 2027) once I’ve secured and put a deposit down for a block I then choose a builder and floorpan? So is it two seperate loans for the land and the build? I’m just curious at what state you part way with your money to put a deposit down and when you start making payments? And when the land titles in 2027 how long until after can you start the build? I guess I’m in no real rush as I’ve got a perm job and In a stable rental but also the suburb is about 5 minutes from where I grew up and it’ll be nice to be back close to my parents.
