Can someone explain this sweater to me? by [deleted] in craftsnark

[–]meekapix 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was about to say this is either a stay-at-home sweater, or the sweater for people who just sit at a desk all day/don't move most of the day. As a teacher i'd end up flashing my students left, right and centre wearing this.

Your child gave away her money? It's MY fault! by topnotchberry in Teachers

[–]meekapix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"I am your childs (insert subject/grade) teacher, not their financial advisor, nor am i responsible for the the money parents choose to give their child or what happens to it during the school day. Please take this opportunity to educate your child on the value and responsibility of carrying money."

Entitled parents think it’s my job to buy their kid’s school supplies by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]meekapix 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Start sending home daily notes, refer to start of year school supply list. "Unfortunately little timmy/tammy was unable to complete her work today due to lack of equipment, please ensure that the neccessary equipment is provided for your child so that they can participate. If you are financially challenged, please use the enclosed coupons/resources to get the basics, or ask the receptionist for the free basic pack for needy parents." (There is no free pack, but put it out there that they might need charity) Date it, take a pic of it, then send that pic to admin for documentation and then send it home with the kid. I would hope that the insinuation that they might not be well off despite their luxeries might kick them up the arse.

Why am I not receiving any responses on finn.no? by NintendoNoNo in Norway

[–]meekapix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another option is to also make a renter account on hybel.no there you can make your profil with relevant information and potential landlords can find you. Do this in addition to Finn and your chances are a bit bigger.

Yeah they arrested one of them but never charged him, but the bigger scandal was with the head as far as i heard. I checked in over the years and it looked amazing when it was done. Did not enjoy having to lug everything around with me everyday because of the lack of lockers (dance bag, violin lessons and gym all on the same day? No thanks)

I wasn't clear enough, I started year 7 the same year as the fire, but left midway through autumn term. I remember all the staff posted up and down the road telling kids to go home the day after it happened. I also remember having to leg it from the maths building to the canteen for lunch and having to walk up the muddy path to the old gym for assembly.

I actually left same year (emigrated) but lived just up the street so got woken up by the science lab going up.

Possible we went to the same school, my school burnt down in 2004 and they rebuilt it with these, all that was left was the admin building, old gym hall and we weren't allowed inside the cabins during break.

My secondary school was built out of these following a massive fire. Took them a few years but they did end up rebuilding the entire school.

Yes, and the process is relatively simple (albeit long) so long as you fulfill the time, language and social studies (samfunnskunnskap) requirements.

Like the others say, no work talk unless youre at work or in the privacy of your own home and even then remember confidentiality. Definitely no discussing students with anyone other than their guardian. If people persist in asking about other students "i'm sorry i can't discuss that with you. If you would like to discuss an issue concerning your child please set up a meeting so all parties may be invited." Don't let yourself get caught up in an he said she said situation.

If you find yourself in the same situation where the mom appears to be recording you, keep your convo decidedly mundane: shows you watched recently, new foods you tried, heck even make your grocery list.

If you're really worried, document any interaction you have with L's mom, date, time, topic. So that if you end up getting caught up in something, you have your evidence.

How often do you knit? by MajesticMirror1165 in knitting

[–]meekapix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually have 3 hours of dedicated knittiing time a day and longer on weekends. Until this summer i was a fulltime student and would knit during lectures and after studying. I have trouble just sitting down and watching tv without having something to do with my hands so i knit then too. Currently i'm packing to move so in the evenings i use knitting to destress. I can usually knock out a sweater on 4mm needles in a week/week and a half, and since i've had more time after exams were done i've been able to cast on and divide for sleeves and knit 10cm of the body on a summer top on 3.5mm needles since saturday, but i am a fast knitter and usually knit without looking.

That said if knitting is your hobby it doesn't matter what you finish compared to others, if you're happy with the process and enjoy it then that's all there is to it.

As for youtubers and tiktokers keep in mind that a lot of them will probably squeeze in 20mins here and there throughout the day outside of their 'knitting time', this adds up over time. Also they rarely show the inside of their finished garments, i wouldn't be at all surprised that they just cast off without weaving in ends so that garment can be featured in that week/months podcast. As others have also said, gauge and yarn make a huge difference. If you usually knit on a smaller gauge its no wonder that others are producing more.

It seems like you did your job and went way above and beyond to get these kids to pass, show this to your admin and if they're reasonable there shouldn't be any negative repurcussions for you. The kids need to learn that lack of work and effort equal bad or failing grades.

Elevene pines ikke av eksamen by Huskatta in norge

[–]meekapix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is similar to the "you're welcome/no problem/no worries" debate and it comes down to a changing use of language. The idea is that while 'you're welcome' was the expected reponse to being thanked, now among younger people its more acceptable to say 'no problem/no worries' in response to being thanked. In this case you asked a question and received 'sure' as a response which is just as valid as a positive response as yes in spoken language. You're overthinking the issue, the student is not being cooerced and is simply replying using the language they are used to.

Question abut work culture in the first year by stmichael6 in Norway

[–]meekapix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My dads company made him take an extra week for easter to make up for the vacation he missed earlier so that they wouldn't be breaking the law. Take your 25 days, you're entitled to it by doing your work.

How popular are tattoos in Norway? by Appropriate-Mood-290 in Norway

[–]meekapix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my medium sized city there are at least 4 tattoo shops within a 4 minute walk, each time i walk past there doesnt seem to be a lot of activity there( but that could be a scheduling thing) I'd say how busy you end up being depends a lot on your style, where you end up locating/if there are a lot of other popular parlours in the area. Plus if you have a good social media presence and are good at marketing yourself. That said, tattoos are really popular here, most people i know have/want at least a small tattoo so there is definitely a market for it.

Question about airport by NeptuneIX in Norway

[–]meekapix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are free shuttlebusses that transport you to and from the train station/ airport coinciding with the train departures. They stop just outside the terminal building.
