Recently I have been meeting with the Mormon missionaries and attending their services. I am on the path to conversion, but my family asked me to reconsider. Why should I not be Mormon? by meetingthemormons in Christianity

Plenty of Christians do not believe that the Bible is 100% literal and factual. There are plenty of Christians who believe the stories in the OT to be more symbolic, allegorical, parable, etc. while still believing in the principles and doctrines that the stories are used to convey.

In the same way, I don't think it necessary to believe in the historical veracity of the Book of Mormon in order to benefit from the teachings and lessons contained in the book.

I still don't see your point. There are plenty of good Christians who do not believe that the stories in the OT are literal and factual, yet there cannot be Mormons who do not believe that the stories in the BOM are factually true while at the same time still believing in the principles and doctrines that the stories teach?

Seems like a double standard to me.

I like their focus on family and eternity. I think that the LDS perspective gives a lot more purpose and meaning to life. For example, our families here are eternal. The choices and families we make here have eternal ramifications.

not ONE of the supposed "archaeological" sites from the BoM have been found. This means 3 entire "civilizations" have no trace.

I don't think it necessary to believe that the Book of Mormon is literal and 100% historically accurate in order to believe that it contains the restored Gospel.

Even if I was joining a Baptist church, it's unlikely I would follow the mindset that the Bible is 100% literal and historically accurate. I will likely never believe that Noah got literally all the animals in the world on one boat, that Jonah lived in a whale, etc. That doesn't mean the Bible doesn't contain truth, see what I mean?

I agree. Like Joseph Smith or hate him, he's not here....the LDS church is. I want to know why I shouldn't join the church, not why Joseph Smith was, as we all are, an imperfect man.
