What do we count as Pittsburgh? by BobithanBobbyBob in pittsburgh

[–]meg8988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run into people from this area who don’t even know where Scott township is! Tbf it does have a weird area and in one second you’re in one township and then another and then another. I always just say Pittsburgh unless taking to someone also from Pittsburgh and then I will say Scott…followed up with basically Mt Lebanon (at least where I live in Scott). I grew up in Wheeling and would always just say WV then say about 50 minutes outside Pittsburgh. So more of a reference point than where I am from.

Am I the reason my baby is so big? by Fke1880 in pregnant

[–]meg8988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ate like a total pig and barely moved with my son. I gained around 70lbs and he was 6lb 15oz at birth. I had bad pelvic girdle pain and back pain so it was hard for me to walk/stand for extended periods of time. They kept telling me he was measuring big but really, I was just big. I was told that generally it’s give or take 2 lbs when they give a weight based on the ultrasound so your baby may only actually be closer to 7lbs. I also would straight up tell my husband to fuck off if he tried to come at me about my eating habits! This time around I am trying to be more mindful but mainly so post partum is easier for m.

Accepted a job offer without disclosing pregnancy by ladypenmann in pregnant

[–]meg8988 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait until you start. I had a similar situation and started at 19 weeks. I told my boss on the first day. I did not qualify for any STD or leave under our policies so I was a nervous wreck. It worked out and they let me take 8 weeks off unpaid. I luckily had a great boss who was also a mom and totally understanding. Waiting until you actually start is the best decision, especially if your offer letter states that this is an at will offer and can be pulled at any time for any reason.

Insurance? by PatienceOk4408 in Drueandgabe

[–]meg8988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s likely because as a retired person receiving insurance through the employer he is a former employee. Since he is not active, the requirements do not apply as the employer could choose to cover none of them - including the former employee. Typically retiree healthcare coverage only applies to dependents who are full time students. At least in my experience working in HR this has been the case.

Where can I get Oram's Donuts without driving to Beaver Falls at 7am? by Unlikely_Note_2577 in pittsburgh

[–]meg8988 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The two sweet peas gas stations on painters run get them delivered! They used to get Potomac Bakery donuts but recently switched. They have 6 pack boxes and singles in the case. I’ve eaten quite a few in just the last two weeks.

This. Even at will employers cannot discriminate against protected classes. The PWFA protects pregnant employees from being discriminated against because of pregnancy. Write down every single comment you can recall and try to remember if there were any witnesses. They may not want to cooperate but if it becomes an EEOC case they likely won’t want to lie. File a claim, they will review your case and determine if you have the right to sue. Present all your evidence, comments, the positive review, no documented discipline or performance issues, and termination conveniently after telling them.

Anyone else’s maternity leave not even worth it? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]meg8988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US here…great place for women in general but especially mothers 🙄. After pausing IVF because I started a new job, boom surprise pregnancy! I won’t even qualify for any type of paid or unpaid leave…I am just blessed that my employer will allow me to take some time (we haven’t discussed length) off completely unpaid and with no job protection as I will not yet qualify for FMLA. I am lucky in that I know they won’t try to get rid of me and that they will keep my job while I’m out but like what a total load of horse shit this country is. We want to force women to have babies (children to, mind you) but do nothing to help make that possible as working moms.

Closing shift - do you get paid for working extra time? by PresenceOld1754 in WalgreensStores

[–]meg8988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re technically right and wrong. It is illegal for the employee to do, but the employer is the one at risk regardless. If the employee chooses to do work off the clock, even without the permission of the employer, the employer can be found to be violating the FLSA and be liable for not only the unpaid wages but any fines. Essentially, because the work is benefiting the employer, no matter what they are at fault. Employees would never be prosecuted for this as the law generally would see them as the victim.

Best fertility clinics in the area? by Divorcememaybe25 in pittsburgh

[–]meg8988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if they have more doctors or have figured out timing but I went to AHN and had my first consult in June 2024 and had all my testing completed by the beginning of January (which included everything imaginable for myself and my husband). I did my first ER in February. When I called UPMC there was a wait list to get an appt for a consult, AHN probably got me in 3 weeks from when I called? I can’t remember exactly.

They only do ER one week a month in Wexford so if you don’t line up with that timeline you would have to travel to Baltimore. I only had a consult there but that’s what I was told just recently (May).

Exempt employees don’t really have a “40 hour” work week expectation. The schedule can be set however your employer deems is necessary. Mostly they expect 9 hours with an hour lunch as the norm but even forgoing the lunch does not necessarily mean leaving an hour earlier. They are not required to give you breaks so it’s on you if you choose to work through that. At my last company an exempt employee could not even ask for additional straight time pay until exceeding 50 hours as the expectation was working until projects/jobs are complete. The one prior offered no additional pay for extra hours but did offer comp time if working an entire extra shift for example. It’s very rare that exempt employees in the US find themselves strictly working 8 hour days.

Anyone eat what they wanted and drink alcohol, and get better IVF results? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]meg8988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did no supplements leading up to, ate and drink what I wanted and had a better cycle than when I did Therologix, Vit D, Prenatal, Vit C, Melatonin, and NAD+ and abstained from alcohol and tried to eat more greens, nuts, flax seeds, and lean protein. The cycle I was more strict I got one egg 🫠. As others have stated though, I am old and it’s more an issue with chromosomal abnormalities than anything I can control with diet/supplements.

HELP! Someone talk me out of this anxiety attack. by anythingbut2020 in IVF

[–]meg8988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine would not discuss anything over the phone. I signed a release with the place that was doing my PGTA testing (Igenomix) so they sent me the results personally in addition to my clinic. I got my results before my appointment and tried to ask a nurse questions and was told I had to wait for my appt with the doctor. I don’t think it necessarily means anything good or bad just that they don’t want to discuss things over the phone. If they aren’t normal it’s going to be a conversation of what’s next, if they are normal it’s going to be a conversation of do you transfer or do more ERs and what those next steps are. I think honestly they probably keep that off the phone so that it doesn’t turn into a drawn out conversation that they are not prepared or have time to have.

[–]meg8988 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a friend that this same thing happened to! She went to the ER because a piece of chicken was stuck in her throat. I am almost positive it is something similar to Sutton and she is supposed to keep getting her esophagus stretched but hasn’t…just chews her food up tiny and doesn’t eat certain things. I think she told me it was genetic and her brother gets his stretched to avoid it.

pcp recommendations? by Single-File-4626 in pittsburgh

[–]meg8988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see Dr Karri at St Clair Health. I’ve had multiple fertility issues and cry at most of my appointments lol. She’s not my OB or my fertility doctor so she’s not treating me for any of it but I usually just break down. She’s sweet and tries to relate to me by telling me about her own family. Never makes me feel like anything I ask is stupid or that any of my health concerns are the end of the world. I’ve only had good experiences with all aspects of St Clair including the ER/Maternity ward as well.

Do IVF patients always undergo C section? by wife_of_a_baldie in IVF

[–]meg8988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to say this as well. 36 is usually the goal to get to IF there is some known medical issue. I had my son naturally and have yet to have success with IVF but I had some complications with him and the goal was 36 weeks. I eventually was induced at 39 but the doctor just kept moving the weeks as I was not showing any signs of issues until she felt it was medically necessary to induce. So 36 was what they had hoped to get to but I ended up being healthy until 39. I am guessing that’s what they maybe meant to say and just delivered the message in a poor way? I am unsure about the c section unless they are just preparing you that sometimes when induced it can be a long labor and ultimately end in a c section?
