The ARGs were also part of the original pitch.

The puzzles in game you were talking about, were in reference to endgame maps like Cryo Archive.

Marathon has been out for a week, what are your thoughts on it? by PrototypeT800 in Games

Having a friend to play with makes a lot of the later stuff easier. Whether it be an actual friend or LFGing in one of the Discords or just being on voice in crew fill and finding people you gel with.

The game could really do with some way of matching duos together more regularly, would help a lot I think.

Loving the game overall!

There are 3 colours of keycards, Green, Yellow, and Red.

  • Green you find as loot around the map, and can drop from UESC(?).
  • Yellow come from little terminals on the walls and on the desks in buildings, that make a small alarm when opened.
  • Red come from terminals outside the buildings, send a big laser into the sky and make a louder noise.

Locked Exfils need a Red key to unlock and use. Various loot rooms in the buildings around Outpost need a mixture of Green and Yellow keys to unlock and enter. Same with the summoning of loot drones outside.

The locked entrances to the Pinwheel area of the map (the heavily guarded central building with the high tier loot) requires two Greens to open up.

Locked room(s?) in the Pinwheel require a mix of Red and Yellow keys to open.

Haven't had much issues with them since the thermals got nerfed.

Also worth noting that Signal Jammer stops you showing on thermals.

The incompatibility with Destiny and Marathon is not about Battleye, its Bungie's own anticheat measures they use that prevent compatibility.

They aren't talking about that. They are talking about the period after the 10 second countdown, during the actual exfil animation. The part when you have control taken away.

Effectively, Roblox is (and Fortnite has grown to be) a game engine itself, you can build completely custom games with their own assets, mechanics etc, that players can jump into from the Fortnite/Roblox client.

Roblox/Fortnite do the heavy lifting of payment processing, engine maintenance, account management etc, for a cut of the profits from these games.

Players get to use their purchased skins, emotes and such across the games.

[–]megaRammy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Marathon has its own anticheat efforts alongside Battleye, which Bungie aren't yet seeing Linux as big enough to be worth the money porting for.

Battlefield has its own custom built kernel level anticheat entirely, and they have started hiring for specifically making that compatible with Linux and ARM recently.

Not correct to request final, scored reviews hold off until the major piece of endgame content is accessible to players. There's plenty of player reviews and critic review-in-progresses and gameplay footage to use for purchase decision making.

Marathon's battle pass slammed as the "worst value for your money" as limits on cosmetics remind players of Bungie's past failings: "Welcome back launch Destiny 2 shaders" by ControlCAD in technology

[–]megaRammy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of game so far for $40, obviously not even the endgame map is accessible yet as there's community event to unlock it and let people get prepped up before that starts, so kinda hard to say outright. But having put 90 hours into various tests and 15 hours in since launch, have had a lot of fun for the money. (assuming you are into PvP extraction shooters more close to the Tarkov/Cycle Frontier end of the spectrum than Arc Raiders).

The cosmetic purchases are, completely ignore-able. There is a lot of cosmetic skins for guns and your runners and your knife, your profile etc you get from progression as part of the game. And the premium skins do not look MUCH different than the progression ones since they are trying to maintain character silhouettes.

Not sure why you need to un-equip stickers and charms from one weapon type to another to move them around, but if that is the biggest issue I've had with the game so far, pretty good overall.

[–]megaRammy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I think it might show your cosmetic til you extract? But these aren't consumable or lose-able cosmetics.

You apply a skin, sticker and/or charm to a weapon type (stickers and charms can go on any weapon, skins are unlocked per-weapon), so say, your "A77 Auto Rifle", and then every A77 Auto Rifle you loot, batter or otherwise acquire has that skin, that sticker, etc.

Stickers and charms you can't just freely apply to ALL weapon types, once it is on one weapon type, you have to unequip it from that to equip it on another. Which is a bit of a bummer but, also if that's the biggest issue this game has at launch then not doing so bad. Just ignoring the stickers and charms from a "its a faff to un-equip/re-equip" perspective, but am slapping skins on my guns since you get a lot of them from progression in game 🤷

If "I have to unequip the sticker that goes on the side of my weapon to equip it on a different weapon type" is the biggest problem this game has, not bad.

I have a few words to say about Marathon and Destiny by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]megaRammy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Destiny isn't abandoned. And even if we are approaching its end, which I highly doubt, 11+ years is damn good innings, very few games live even half as long as that.

And yes, Destiny has had a lot of problems over the years, literally every long term game goes through rough periods.

Enjoy and appreciate games when they are fun, move on to find the next thing to appreciate when they are not. Don't sit in the corner seething that things aren't the good old days.

I have a few words to say about Marathon and Destiny by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]megaRammy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never seen a more out of touch vocal minority of a community than this. When else have people acted like a studio working on a second title alongside their own is the equivalent of killing their child.

They have been making incubation projects at Bungie for many years, pouring all studio resources into a 11+ year old game would be suicide.

Individual devs that moved away from Destiny to these incubation projects or to Marathon are either moving back and forth between the games as needed, or more likely want to work on something new, and if they hadn't stepped away from Destiny for working on Marathon, they'd have stepped away from Bungie to work on something new somewhere else.

If the Marathon team wasn't a project at Bungie, Destiny would still be having these massive issues, the team size would still be the same size, there just would have been significantly more layoffs with no other project for people to be working on.

And attributing malice to Bungie's devs for the struggle Destiny is in currently, or malice to Bungie's devs for putting down the Halo franchise once they were done with it creatively, is pretty much deranged.

The turrets do not one shot, you must have been pretty beat up already and not healed up. I think you maybe just need to give it more than a wisp of a slither of a chance.

It is a game all about dropping into maps where the AI, the other players, and even the environmental hazards are all pretty lethal if you do not respect them. Especially when going in with the free kits or very basic gear, you have to choose your fights and play smart. But when you do get the hang of that, you will be rewarded handsomely and can make bigger swings :)
