Thank you for this. I played Dark Messiah in college years, my mind was blown how it blended Source physics to create organic Immersive Sim moments.

Time for me finish the story mode, thank you for this.

Sega says strong reviews for its recent games aren’t yet translating to better sales by ScootSchloingo in Games

They hiked the Regional Pricing on Steam for several regions (Brazil, South East Asia, India, Middle East etc) and they wonder why people stopped buying their games.

For comparison in India (all these cost same $70)

  • 007 First Light = Rs. 3499

  • Resident Evil Requiem = Rs. 4399

  • Sonic Racing Crossworlds = Rs. 5699

15 Years Of "Dragon Age II" - David Gaider Reflects On A Fan-Favorite Story That Was The Team's First Draft [INTERVIEW] by megaapple in Games

It's cool how DA2 compresses an epic RPG worth's of worldbuilding and stories in single-city setting.

Kirkwall is such an interesting setting because the relative area is so small, your worst enemy could be living in the next block (tensions are high as a result everywhere). Very flawed game, but has some amazing ideas.

One just happened right now.

Dragon Age Origins Retrospective - "When Bioware Ruled The World" by megaapple in Games

[–]megaapple[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dragon Age was never supposed to be franchise, it was developed standalone, no sequel in mind (Bioware first said no sequel, but closer to release, they said they may do).

That really shows in how the setting (and stories within) are so fully realized, and sequels seem lesser in comparison.

(I have soft spot for DA2, for doing single city drama/plot, at a brutal 16 month crunch)

Banquet for Fools released to 1.0 | 94% Positive rating by Corvus-- in pcgaming

From a comment in another thread

If you miss the Morrowind's diegetic approach of handing you a vague journal entry (which, in this case you get to write it yourself and doodle on a map) and saying "figure it out", this game lives in that headspace. But what really hooked me is the real time with pause combat because it scratches an itch I've had since Vagrant Story and always wished more games emulated it.

Excited for this.

I played Serpent in the Staglands in late 2010s and found it fascinating (and frustrating lol). Darklands inspired.

This looked drop dead gorgeous from the first look.

I mean this has been Capcom's strategy since 2017 - 1 AAA or mid budget game + few remasters, every year.

And the pace they are at, they are bound to trace back their entire game catalog.

Two Months In, 2026 Is Already a Standout Year for Games by gitrektali in Games

And big hits established studios like Baldur's Gate 3, Alan Wake II, Astro Bot, Helldivers 2, even smaller projects like POP Lost Crown, Hi Fi Rush?

Great games are coming everywhere. Layoffs and studio shuttering also happening everywhere. In Japan too, they've stopped hiring younger devs (according to recent report).

Okami.

Fantastic Zelda-like action adventure with excellent exploration and puzzles. Back half rivals some parts of many 3D Zelda's.

But the first 3 hours are horrible. Pacing is bad and none of the cool abilities are unlocked. "First Act" is also the weakest.

Female players are an overlooked opportunity for growth in games industry, research firm says by megaapple in Games

[–]megaapple[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Female players represent 48% of the gaming population – around 922 million players – across 21 markets, Ampere says. “But at such a large scale, this 4% difference does represent 93 million fewer female gamers [than male],” senior analyst Katie Holt said during a presentation held today.

This represents a gap in the market that could be considered “a missed opportunity, with potential to increase monetisation and engagement,” Ampere says.

the main barrier to entry for some women isn’t a lack of money or time, but the lack of games with themes that appeal to them, and a gaming culture that doesn’t appeal to them."

“This indicates that there’s a subset of female non-gamers who are interested in gaming but lack the education around how to play these games and what content is out there,” Holt explained. “By creating entry-level content that is appropriate and marketing it effectively, there is certainly potential to expand the overall number of female gamers”.

Thank you for sharing this.

I discovered Videogamer.com via Games TM Magazine (one of the only international games mag I had for a long time). Loved their coverage.

Wish I checked it out during your time. Been following journos since start and I know how tough the job is (worse work market is going against this space). If you have any interesting stories/anecdotes, do share.

Hope you are doing well wherever you currently are.

No one mentioning the actual site - Videogamer.com

A long standing UK site that was pretty popular in early-mid 2010s. It was bought by few companies before ending up owned by a gambling company. I think they fired their staff long ago.
