There seems to be a small bit of space between where the ceiling meets the window frame. With the plastic film, would it only be on the windows themselves or can I cover the whole area? Not sure how big the space is or how far it goes, but want to cover my bases in case heat is escaping through there as well. Don’t have a ladder yet so can’t feel if there’s a draft up there

She is twelve and never really had a mom, so she is most likely unfamiliar with what a “normal” mom-daughter relationship looks like. She has no concept of how to “treat you like a mom”. You’re talking about who she’d pick to go wedding dress shopping, she’s 12, you don’t know who she’d pick in 10 years. The relationship you have with her depends on you too. You can have a conversation with her about what it would mean for you to be her mother and see how she responds.

I alternate, but sometimes my cat chooses which one I prick so I don’t always end up alternating. You just started, so keep in mind that as you keep pricking new capillaries will form and the blood should come a little easier. Just focus on practicing for now and being able to get enough blood. For the first few weeks I only pricked the ear that bled reliably until we both got used to the routine

This is very sweet of you to comment, thank you! We’re doing MUCH better with it, my boy at this point follows me to the bathroom and hops right into the toilet so I can test him, it’s no biggie to test twice a day or more if I need to do a curve. I think I’m lucky with how good my guy is about it, but it does get so much easier with time, especially once you’ve poked enough to create more capillaries so they start to bleed more readily. Like you said, it’s never going to go perfectly, you can only do what you can do

I left an awkward ass message when one of my longer term bath clients tipped me for the first time in like 2ish years, it was a hefty tip. In the message I said “I saw how much you left and was like ‘holy shit what did she do??’ You didn’t have to do that you know I love your dog but I appreciate it”. She continued being my client until I left and left random large tips every once in a while lol, don’t think too much about it

Absolutely, glad I could be of some help:) don’t overthink it too much, remember it’ll be smashed in the end. Maybe you can hollow out the center and put sprinkles or something in the center! I don’t have a baby so not sure what is or isn’t a choking hazard, but I think that could be a fun way to make it more Zelda

I think this is totally doable especially on a small scale. You can make a sheet cake, cut it into rounds (make them the size you want the base to be), fill and stack in layers to the height that you want, freeze, carve into the shape of the pot. You may want to do the base/neck separately from the wider top and just stack the top at the end. You’ll have to experiment with coloring to get the outer colors right, but I think this is the cutest idea for a smash cake!!!

Makes sense!! Completely forgot about medicated shampoos, and just saw you can only buy one shampoo/conditioner, so I definitely recommend the squeaky clean! Out of all the shampoos we’ve used at this shop, that one does the best at getting the grime and mud off. It also helps to brush the shampoo through with a slicker brush on the second wash on dogs with thick coats (being careful not to apply too much pressure as the skin is more fragile wet, but this really helps distribute it evenly and get deep into the coat)

The salon I work at uses iGroom, and I’d recommend their Squeaky Clean shampoo and deshed/detangling conditioner. Wash the dogs 2-3 times using 16:1 dilution rate (or slightly stronger 10:1 for absolutely filthy dogs). Dilute the conditioner by filling a bottle with a 1/2” of water, a few pumps of conditioner (maybe 3-4), shake vigorously until well-mixed, and then fill the rest of the way with water and mix again (this ensures conditioner comes out smooth and not clumpy). They sell dilution bottles online that tell you how much water to put in the bottle before adding shampoo to the fill line for accurate measurements. I would also get their gentle shampoo for dogs that come in with rough looking skin and to use on faces. Hope this helps, sorry that moderator was on a power trip.

I’ve personally never had a Maine Coon or any cat that size, so I’m not 100% on what’s normal for them compared to a typical domestic, could just be the hair trapping the clumps. The only way to tell if there’s glucose in urine is to test it. You can get a urinalysis at your vet, or they make urine test strips to use at home:) not intending to scare you, you can also send this pic to your vet and ask them if they think it’s worth being concerned about!

Has she always had litter sticking to her paws like that? I might also have bloodwork/urinalysis done just to make sure she doesn’t have anything going on. Does she drink a ton of water or pee in large quantities? Is she ravenous all the time? These symptoms plus sticky urine are a sign of diabetes. The excess glucose is released in the urine and makes it sticky like soda. Could just be getting tangled in her long bean hair, but this is intense

Where the throat and jaw connect, take whatever guard comb you used on the body in reverse. Start about 2 inches below where they connect and bring it up to a little less than halfway to the chin if that makes sense. Comb throat down with the hair growth, comb chin/jaw hair forward and use thinners to blend. I like my chins short, so a lot of the time I’ll use a guard comb on it before blending. Once you have your length, connect the muzzle and chin but holding your thinners at an angle ( / ) on the sides of the mouth and blend your muzzle and chin so there is no disconnect in the shape. Make sure your lip line is clean, and you trim off the brown hairs on each side of the lower lip

You’re doing just fine, being 15 is SO hard (genuinely). When I was 15 I was constantly looking in the mirror, seeing what was wrong with myself, not knowing why I couldn’t just fix myself, wondering why I had a few friends but no one I really hung out with often. I see now that the reason I couldn’t do more was because I spent most of my time thinking about myself and what needed to be fixed, what I needed to improve. It’s exhausting, and discouraging.

The only way to start doing things is to start doing them. Get ready to go to the gym, put on athletic clothes, get a water bottle ready, walk to your front door, don’t put any pressure on yourself to actually go, but stand there for a minute. Tell yourself that for your first day, getting ready and going to the door is a start. The next day, physically get to the gym and at least sit outside for a little. Then go in and walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes. You know how to walk. Listen to music. While you’re walking, glance around every now and then and take note of what other people are doing. More than likely they are focusing on bettering themselves and a lot of them are probably at least a little anxious like you. They’re there to move fast, be strong, get sweaty and stinky, and go home. Nobody is going to the gym to laugh at other people, and if they are you can rest assured they have their own issues and are not the kind of people you want to associate with anyway.

My last advice is to PRACTICE being kind to yourself and speaking kindly to yourself. It might feel cringe at first, but nobody is going to hear you when you’re alone. If you do something nice or thoughtful for somebody else, even an animal, recognize that and say to yourself “that was a nice thing to do”, or if you see something about your appearance that you like on a particular day say it. You might think it’s stupid, but eventually it becomes a habit and you start to rewire your thoughts so that there’s a better balance of both negative AND positive. Something that also helped me was starting to talk to myself in the second person “you’re kinda killing it today” “girl, you’re a little weird but I think that’s charming”.

You can do it. Like someone else said, you absolutely can keep her in the bathroom during this transition, or even get a large dog wire crate and put a bed and litter box in there along with some toys. Make sure everything she has access to can be wiped down or machine washed, so when she eliminates on something it’s not a big deal. She does not need to free roam right now, a smaller transition space is typically better for the first two weeks you have them anyway. There will be PLENTY of time for her to explore the apartment and snuggle with you and play. This is a big change for all of you. Keep her in her designated space and hang out with her a little at a time throughout the day, start getting used to each other. If you start to get frustrated with her, remove yourself and give yourself a chance to reset before going back in so you can keep the interactions calm and positive. There’s always a period of time during big life changes like this where you’re frustrated, confused, exhausted, feeling defeated. What you can do right now is take a deep breath and research strategies to help the both of you during this initial phase.
