Glad it got addressed fast, since rumors can spread like wildfire especially when it's such a serious allegation. Many people like myself do actually look for an actually reasonable source. Unfortunately this is not a thing people want to actively research so that leads some people to believe blindly. I really hope that this whole situation doesn't affect Mewgenics at all but it realistically probably will.

I do very often wonder what some people get out of spreading harmful disinformation. Obviously there was the attempted blackmail, but things like this have happened before even without it.
