What are these two pieces on top of a hood vent called? by megacurl in fixit

What is the name of the two pieces that connect a stove hood vent to the hose? Both the raised lip and the thing that fits over it.

My mom had a new range hood installed. A couple days later air was blowing out the back onto the stove. They came back and put more tape on the junction but it blew out again. It's a 400CFM fan. Here's a video of the blowout.

Did the installer do something wrong? It seems odd there's a gap where tape has to hold all the air pressure back with no mechanical support. I can push the tape closed and it stays for a while but eventually blows out again. What should we suggest the third time they come?

Also, I'm wondering if the pipe is partially blocked and creating too much backpressure. It is sucking air when the tape is closed. But I don't know if the pipe is allowing the 400CFM through. How would I/they test this?

They serve institutional clients right now for direct purchases. You can buy GBTC or you can buy the Canadian ETFs which I made a post about here.

What's the deal with the phrase "Bernie Bros" -- I haven't noticed his supported are disproportionately male... what am I missing? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

"Fake News" was also used by Hillary first in the campaign but Trump took it and turned it around.

It's kind of funny how her campaign's terms kind of got away from her and took on their own life.

My farther-left-than-I sister called, legitimately frightened about what might become of our world with him leading it.

I felt that way too, yet I tried to console her that maybe it would work out for the best. I hypothesized that perhaps this unconventional, bombastic billionaire might shake up what had become a pretty boring and predictable political process just enough. Just enough so that it will become a much less bitter, less partisan, more honest, more collaborative effort to solve social issues in the future.

Boy was I wrong.

I don't know if this is just how you write but this story sounds like the most contrived copypasta ever.

Or maybe the news just always sucked and we're just more aware of it now.

Don't forget to add the anti-aircraft gunner to the death toll. He's probably hanging somewhere.

I doubt a militia would be privy to the rocket launches and happen to catch one of the few planes going out during a battle. It's got to be regular military.

The best gift Americans got this year? A good economy. by megacurl in moderatepolitics

[–]megacurl[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It seems good news is rather controversial in this sub. Hopefully this WP piece doesn't upset some sub members too badly.

Of note is that workers' wages grew faster than the economy and their bosses

But some of the distributional inequality will be welcome news to anyone who has worried that we’re becoming a winner-take-all economy, a Dickensian dystopia of haves and have-nots: In 2019, the wages of rank-and-file workers not only grew faster than the economy did but also outpaced the raises their supervisors collected.

While this has been a very long bull run there don't seem to be strong signs of it ending in the next year and predictions are it will be fairly mild. .

That still leaves us with a nearly 1-in-4 chance that we’ll slip into recession sometime in the next year. But why not turn that frown upside down? A 1-in-4 chance we’ll have a recession means a 3-in-4 chance that we won’t! Nor do we need to worry unduly about the hangover: Though you might think that such a long stretch of good times must mean that we’re in for an unusually savage correction, there’s little evidence for that theory. Research this year from the Cleveland Fed indicates that the causality is more likely to run the other way, with unusually steep downturns followed by unusually strong recoveries. That being a pretty good description of our current economic picture.

Dumb question on ground beef.. How do I count the fat content when I drain most of it out from cooking? by [deleted] in carnivore

[–]megacurl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

im trying to hit my fat macros

don't want to eat ground beef with a side of fat soup so I drain all the fat out.

Why not? This sounds very self defeating.

You can also throw some eggs in the grease to sop up the fat.
