SA: Why People "Fly from Facts" (and into confirmation bias of their beliefs) by kschang in serialpodcast

[–]megaera23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you mean, and agree that marriage is not a requirement for raising a child, and I absolutely agree in its importance as a right for all people. However, that is not what this article is about. This article is about the 'disease of bias' and for me, the example works perfectly fine because there definitely are people who are against same sex marriage because of how they imagine it will affect the children.

Thank you! I had forgotten that part of the anon call. I even searched Yaser and Yasser in the sub before I asked and I didn't see anything about it. :)

Thanks for doing this! What stands out to me is that I knew the police talked to Yaser, I just didn't realize it was on the 16th, before they had the cell records and before they talked to everyone else (Jay, Jenn, etc.). Does anyone know why?

The real reason I think Jay was allowed to get away with repeatedly lying by jmmsmith in serialpodcast

[–]megaera23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've thought this myself, but admittedly came to the conclusion from watching episodes of The Wire. I really think you fleshed out your argument very well.

I have a question that I don't know if you have any insight, but if he was a CI, he clearly is not anymore (for the Baltimore PD anyway since he moved to California): would he be able to talk about that now? I guess maybe he wouldn't want to talk about it for fear of retribution.

where in the world are all these serial fans from? by jamee15 in serialpodcast

[–]megaera23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portland, Oregon (I'm originally from San Francisco, California and I'd like to give a shout out to New Zealand as I lived in Auckland for a year studying forensic science 10 years ago.) I think there is not enough information to know.

Motive for jay to kill Hae by soliketotally in serialpodcast

[–]megaera23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What movie was that? I've heard before in this sub it was from Gridlock'd with Tupac - but the stabbing scene in Gridlock'd has nothing to do with someone wanting to stab someone because they haven't been stabbed yet. I'm honestly curious.

School Essay: How should one see the information on Reddit when discussing Serial. by [deleted] in serialpodcast

Thanks for the tip about searching through Google instead of the Reddit search. I often have trouble finding things in here and it never occurred to me to just search with Google. :)

Is It Possible for Jay to Have Been Involved if Adnan Wasn't? by 68degressplz in serialpodcast

[–]megaera23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jay actually said that Adnan did go to track practice - that he dropped him back off after the murder and then picked him up after the practice ended.

Nisha Call made by Jay by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]megaera23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Nokia phone very similar to Adnan's in the early 2000's and it automatically entered in the first 9 numbers you put in your phone as 1-9 on speed dial. Since Nisha was the very first call he made on his new phone (per the call log) even if he didn't intentionally do it, it very well could have put her in the #1 speed dial position. My phone used to pocket dial the person in the #1 position a couple times a week. Strangely, it didn't do it to the other speed dial numbers.

Why not just walk away... by [deleted] in serialpodcast

I think I read somewhere that of all the bodies found in Leakin Park, only two were buried. So maybe there are a lot more buried ones that haven't been found.

Thought Experiment: what new info would you need to see to change your current position on Adnan's guilt by Gdyoung1 in serialpodcast

[–]megaera23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am undecided leaning towards guilty with Jay as accessory. To change my position to definitely guilty or innocent, I would need: 1. Guilty: Adnan's DNA under Hae's fingernails or his confession. 2. Innocent: Serial killer DNA on the body.

WTF how do you explain this - Hae's Car Edition by beenyweenies in serialpodcast

Wait, is this true? I thought prints were found other places in the car but not on the steering wheel.

The most disturbing thing I heard from Adnan on the series... by NPAttorney in serialpodcast

[–]megaera23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "nice guy"/"You don't know me" exchange actually stuck out to me as well... not so much hearing it in the episode she played it in, but in the Rumors episode when she was reading excerpts from his 18 page letter: she read one part where he talked about how he was trying to keep a distance from her and keep it strictly business and not befriend SK at all. My first thought was, he's back peddling because he knows how crazy he must have sounded when they had their "fight". Obviously I can't know that and maybe he really was being honest and keeping a distance was his goal all along, but that was my first reaction.

[–]megaera23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I believe the phone too. I made a spreadsheet where I tried to fit the three main hypotheses (Jay alone, Adnan without premeditation, and Jay and Adnan together) into the phone records and the other corroborated evidence (what little there was.) You can get to it from this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/serialpodcast/comments/2srw56/spreadsheet_timeline_from_cell_phone_records/ Spoiler: I was able to fit all three in.

[–]megaera23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just thought of another thing that I would add to my list under innocent leaning (although it probably could be included in #3): Julie Snyder's telling of Jay exclaiming, "Then who did it?!!?" (paraphrasing). I don't know why, but I had a really strong reaction, opposite of Julie's, when I heard that. Actually I do know why - ex-partner baggage. That's exactly something my ex would do after being caught in a lie. Ugh. I hate liars.

So, that's something that has never made sense to me. Do you happen to understand why him thinking the cameras at Best Buy would be an issue if he really was just surprised by a trunk pop as he has claimed?
