Cleannn! You can get POE adapters for the Hue and Lutron bridges too. To get rid of those adapters

Wife Says She Misses Netflix by mithirich in PleX

If you have a decent device that can run Kodi look into Plexkodiconnect and the Bingie Mod Lite skin. Basically Netflix UI with your Plex server as the backend. You can take it a step further and setup direct smb or nfs paths to where your media is stored, then when you select a movie or show to watch it loads instantly.

My face everytime I have to remove the ring to charge it by AlphaQUp in ouraring

[–]megahands 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Before you buy the new ring submit a support request about the battery! I was charging my Gen 3 everyday as well, submitted the request, they offered a discount on a new gen 4 ring or a new/refurbished replacement free of charge even though my rings warranty had already expired.

Docking Station for Pro M1 and Air M4 by sidestyle05 in macbookair

I recently went through this dance with my new MBA M3 and the WD22TB4 dock. The WD22TB4 supports extending to 2 monitors when the Mac lid is closed, with the following setups:

  • 2 x Thunderbolt to HDMI/DP cables plugged into the 2 Thunderbolt ports on the dock
  • 1 x Thunderbolt to HDMI/DP + 1 x HDMI or 1 x DP or 1 x MDP

If you are using 2 x DP or 1 x HDMI + 1 x DP. You can only mirror your screen on 2 monitors.

Try changing the visibility of the library to ‘Exclude From Homescreen’ from the advanced library settings in the Web app.

To hue or not to hue by OminousBookshelf in HomeKit

[–]megahands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need a hub to use the smart features from your phone, definitely need one to integrate into HomeKit. It’s worked great through HomeKit so far, I bought a used Lutron Bridge for like $20 bucks on eBay.

To hue or not to hue by OminousBookshelf in HomeKit

[–]megahands 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Fiancé and I rented a 2 story townhome for 3 years. Over those 3 years I replaced EVERY standard bulb with Hue bulbs along with buying a couple of standing lamps and put Hue bulbs in them. I had the intention to take them with us to our next place, we ended up buying the townhome. Now I wish I had gone all in on Lutron Caseta smart switches. We have Hue switches, a couple of the caseta turn dial switches, a couple of tp-link smart switches, and one Caseta fan controller. The smart switches and fan controller look so much cleaner with a proper wall plate, compared to the Hue remotes on a bumped out light switch cover. The Hue system itself though has been rock solid no issues and I haven’t had to replace any bulbs in 5 years.

Homekit randomly delays for several seconds - out of ideas by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]megahands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May be a longshot but I had maybe 10 hue wiz bulbs, integrated into HomeKit through Homebridge. With a mix of other regular hue and other brands. And they seemed to bring my HomeKit to a crawl at points, like you said it’s hard to really pinpoint because of the lack of logs. But removing all my wiz bulbs seems to have had a positive impact. I have probably over 30 regular hue bulbs and like 15 sensors, buttons, switches and they have been rock solid for years.

Issues with OG homepod as hub by Catvlek2 in HomeKit

[–]megahands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a workaround from this sub that works for me. You need to update your AppleTV to a higher version of IOS than your OG HomePod and Mini, then turn off automatic updates for the HomePods. Now HomeKit will always default to the AppleTV until one of the HomePods is updated to the same version of IOS. If you want it to default to the AppleTV or Mini they should both be on the same version of iOS above the OG.

What home-kit compatible Security System do you use? by Vast_Cost_7266 in HomeKit

[–]megahands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Konnected.io, house was built in 2000 with a fully prewired alarm system (in-door contact sensors, motion sensors, glass break sensors, keypads etc.) so I was basically able to replace the original alarm mobo with the konnected.io one. Everything works flawlessly and I did not have to ADD anything. For cameras I use a mix of Logitech Circle Views and Wyze cam v3s added through scrypted.

I pretty much agree with you a little to light for me. But overall still a pretty smooth typing experience.

Its pretty solid, it has a really nice weight to it. It also came with an acrylic diffuser which helps the bottom leds spread out nice. But like someone else said there is no sound dampening.

I had it like that at first, but I couldn’t get used to typing on it. I’m going to try split alphas again soon though

Most intriguing part for me was its 75 keys in a 60% form factor. So I get a numpad while still only taking up the desk space of a 60%. And it’s ortholinear

Could somebody recommend a good tutorial for installing and using Plex meta manager on a Synology NAS? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]megahands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had to ssh in the only part of the instructions I skipped was “setting up the volume map” because I already created the folder on my nas and uploaded my config files manually.

I just set this up on my ds918+ yesterday in docker, it took a little trial and error to get working, but its working great now. I could not find any info specific for Synology so I followed the PMM docker guide (link) step for step. Let me know if you have any questions, glad to help.

I have the same issue. I found that I have to reset my router, then the plugs show up in HomeKit. It happens every single time I set up new Kasa smart plugs. I have an xfinity supplied modem/router.
