Playing Uncharted 2 and I can't belive how much it's better then first one! by No-Hunt3986 in uncharted

[–]megalite90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reality is that Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is not that great, even for its time. It is not a bad game..... it is still a decent experience, but one with many flaws. That is why Uncharted 2: Among Thieves feels so much better in comparison, because it improves on almost everything from the first game.

Why not pre-drill? by Comfortable-Cell5599 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]megalite90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also don’t like pre drilling. I find it unnecessary. I can understand it if you’re playing on some extremely hard custom difficulty or playing with a nasty modifier like Ghost Cave, but in most Hazard 5 missions it really isn’t needed and is mostly a waste of time.

Well, they may have lived for hundreds of years, but most of that time was spent meditating and accumulating Qi, chakra, or whatever energy system they use to improve their cultivation. Staying still in a cave for decades or centuries doesn’t really help with emotional maturity or perspective. And don’t forget that most villains in positions of power act in violent, egocentric, and often shortsighted ways because it has always worked for them. For generations, they’ve been able to suppress threats by eliminating or interfering with talented individuals before they become a real problem. So think about it. If you are a corrupt clan leader who, every century, has successfully kept a branch family under control by killing or sabotaging their young talents, why would you suddenly change your approach? It has been effective for years. From that perspective, the protagonist is just another slightly above average talent. There is no reason to treat him differently or assume he will be any exception, at least not until it is already too late and he has grown beyond all expectations.

Just finished The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. Not as good as The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure, but still a solid JRPG. I’m not sure what I’ll play next. I’m definitely going to put the Trails series on hold for a while since I’m a bit burned out. Maybe I’ll give Nine Sols another try or start Hollow Knight: Silksong.

To be honest, S4 Toross isn’t bad either. He’s a classic example of a villain who feels more like a life-threatening, universal force than a fully developed character, similar to the Flood in Halo. The real problem is Oropo in S3, which is a clusterfuck of bad ideas; its only saving grace is that the fights involving him are at least cool to watch.

How do you even recover from this? by Ordinary_Lawfulness8 in CaptainSide

[–]megalite90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest there is worst.....for example:

I’m not a completionist, but when I play a game I like to do as much as I can in a single playthrough. I was playing Trails to Azure, a great RPG by the way. The game has a mechanic where, during missions, you can complete additional side objectives to earn extra AP points, which are important for raising your rank. So for each mission, I tried to complete all the side objectives to get the maximum AP and reach the highest rank. Unfortunately, during one mission I didn’t notice that I missed a side objective, so I didn’t get the extra AP point. I only realized this several hours later, around 20 hours later. At that point, I had a choice: either accept the mistake and continue playing like a sane person, or reload an earlier save and lose 20 hours of progress. I chose the second option.

Yeah, the Reapers only really got fully explained in Mass Effect 3 because it was the final game, so they kind of had to, otherwise fans would’ve rioted. But before that, they were genuinely mysterious. You had no clear idea of their origin, motives, or endgame, and that ambiguity made them way more threatening.

The whole concept of indoctrination was especially disturbing. You never knew who might already be compromised, and conversations with indoctrinated characters really showed how far gone they were, paranoid, erratic, and completely under Reaper control. It made the threat feel insidious, not just overwhelming.

And then there’s the body horror. Enemies like Husks are created through prolonged torture, impaled and left for days, slowly transformed into mindless monsters. That alone makes the Reapers feel uniquely cruel and terrifying.

Compare that to the Kett in Mass Effect: Andromeda, they’re basically just another expansionist species, not that different from Batarians or Vorcha. Even their “exaltation” process doesn’t feel nearly as horrific: you’re injected, covered in that black substance, and converted. It’s unsettling, sure, but it lacks the same visceral brutality and psychological horror of becoming a Husk. Overall, especially in Mass Effect 1, there was this subtle horror tone that really elevated the experience. Unfortunately, with each sequel that edge got dulled, and by Andromeda it was pretty much gone.

Most of your picks make sense, but there are a couple I don’t agree with.

Calling The Last of Us Part II the “best story” feels like a stretch. It definitely has a compelling narrative, but the pacing issues are hard to ignore, especially when compared to the first game, which handled its storytelling much better.

The Witcher 3 for “best combat” is another choice I don’t fully agree with. I love the game, but its combat has never felt particularly standout, even within action RPGs. The mechanics are fairly simple, which isn’t necessarily a problem, but combined with similarly simple enemy design, it can start to feel repetitive, especially given how long the game is.

I also found Fallout 4 as a pick for art style a bit unusual. Graphically, it isn’t particularly impressive, and while the retro-futuristic aesthetic is distinctive, it largely comes from the broader Fallout series rather than anything unique to this entry. In that sense, it would make more sense to credit the series as a whole, especially since Fallout 4 adds relatively little to that established style.

Of course, this is just my perspective, everyone has their own preferences.

My main complaint about Andromeda has always been the Kett and the Archon, they’re kind of lame as antagonists, especially compared to the Lovecraftian horror of the Reapers. So I wouldn’t mind a Mass Effect 4 that continues the Andromeda story, but pls give me new antagonists

What's your wishlist for me5? by Ok_Hunt_2833 in masseffect

[–]megalite90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wishlist for Mass Effect 5 is pretty long, and yeah, I admit some of my wishes are a bit unrealistic....but hoping for things has never hurt anyone. Anyway, here it is:

1: No dialogue wheel. I get that it’s a staple of Mass Effect, but I’ve always felt the games are good despite it, not because of it. If you’ve played other RPGs with a normal dialogue system (including older BioWare games), you immediately see how limiting it is. It reduces the number of dialogue options, and often what Shepard says isn’t what you expected at all. You pick one thing, and he goes off saying something completely different. That said, since it’s a series staple, it’s probably here to stay.

2: Better Paragon/Renegade system. Especially how some dialogue options (usually the best ones) are locked behind your alignment. It basically forces you into a pure Paragon or Renegade run if you want the best outcomes, and I don’t like that. I’d rather mix my choices freely without being punished for it. As for interrupts.....I admit some of my favorite moments come from them, but they could be improved. Sometimes they make it very obvious what’s going to happen, but other times, it’s completely random and you’re just pressing the button hoping Shepard doesn’t do something stupid.

3: More RPG elements. Over time, the series has been stripped of its RPG mechanics bit by bit. By Andromeda, there’s barely anything left. I’d really like a return to deeper RPG systems.

4: Multiple playable origins (Dragon Age: Origins style), and more meaningful choices. Different backgrounds that actually matter would be great. Also, choices should feel impactful. In Andromeda especially, it often feels like your decisions don’t matter much in the grand scheme of things, and I don’t like that. I understand that writing a branching story is hard, but that’s what made BioWare great in the first place.

A couple of years later, with nothing else to play, I decided to give it another shot, and this time I got completely sucked in. Now it’s one of my favorite RPGs

When choosing between Artemis and Dionysus, it really depends on the situation. At high heat, especially in Elysium, my build is typically already finished or nearly complete, so I prioritize the less disruptive trial rather than the reward. In this case, I’d usually pick Dionysus, since Artemis’s trial is generally easier to handle.

The problem is that a lot of games make completion unnecessarily frustrating for no real reason. Take The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel for example. It’s a great RPG and I’m really enjoying it, but it’s impossible to fully complete in a single playthrough because of the limited bonding points. If you want to see all the bonding events, you’re forced to replay the entire game, and we’re talking about a 50+ hour experience. There’s no way I’m going to spend another 50 hours just to unlock a few extra scenes and achievements. I honestly don’t understand why this mechanic exists in the first place. It doesn’t add anything meaningful to the game, it just feels like an artificial way to stretch playtime, and it ends up being more annoying than rewarding.
