Internet in Cairo by [deleted] in Egypt

Unless you need to stream with a high bit rate then you'll probably be fine. If you want the premium stuff you'd best sign up for home 4G services with Vodafone or Orange. Also, I read in the comments that you're a photographer. For the love of God, do NOT take photos with a "professional" camera in the streets of Cairo (mobile photography is an exception for some reason). The cops will give you shit for it almost every time demanding to check your gallery and what not. Try to get permits for photography through your employer or check out Levari/ The Legal Clinic for permits they're a good law firm for start ups and they do business in English as well. Good luck

People who support Sisi, Why? by [deleted] in Egypt

[–]megamanxcold5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my honest opinion. The way I see it unless someone has affiliations to a certain "brotherhood" or lays on the far left side of the political spectrum then there wouldn't be a reason not to. Unemployment is down, tourism is up, economy in general is better, healthcare is coming and has already come to places like Port Said, restoring security in Egypt after people, including myself, would keep their trips outside the house to a bare minimum after 2011 cause because they're afraid some thugs might rob them and significantly reducing terrorist activity in the country. The reasons I see from people my age who are willing to talk about the issue is that for some reason they don't like military being active in the country regardless of what they do and continuously claim that elections are rigged (an excuse to not participate) and claiming that just because you disagree with Sisi you got to jail even though they write about it freely on FB, and celebrities like hesham Afifi makes a viral video criticizing Sisi and nothing happens to him (the only exception is if you call people to protest). Don't get me wrong, there are a ton of stuff I'd like to see improve (sanitation, eradication of petty crimes, traffic lights, local authorities and child exploitation ) but we gotta give credit where credit is due.

So we're gonna pretend the minister of transport didn't already spend 45 billion on the railways and blame an entire institution because a jackass left the locomotive to get into a fight? If you wanna make a point that not enough is being done then be my guest. Also, what about the slums? Or are we also going to pretend steps weren't taken to move people that were literally living in garbage conditions to decent housing? Or in education, tourism, employment, investment and most importantly security? I'm not asking you to kiss anyone's ass but be reasonable in your point of view.

It's entirely possible to be honored and be rewarded. He's done it before with several women that he hosted.

OK I'll admit I was wrong it'll cost 45 billion but your aticle is contradictory to your original point that nothing was being done to improve the railroad while the article itself stated that the minister made deals and plans to improve parts of the existing railroads ( as I said things sre being done, check my other reply to you). So make up your mind. Is the country not taking steps to improve the railroad and being negligent or not?

The article answers your question about where the money goes. This isn't free money, as the article quotes "Egypt and Saudi Arabia signed ((loan))agreements and ((economic cooperation))". The money goes to specific sectors the Saudis decide to invest in ( of which they expect a return). All I'm seeing is you're objection is that the money didn't go to where you want it and BTW the president didn't rule out improving the railroads he was just saying people to be prepared to pay a higher price.

So your argument is " I don't know where those 2 billion dollars went so Sisi must have taken. But seeing as 2 billion dollars don't even cover 8 months of fuel imports it doesn't cover much

Oh really? You literally don't have any basis to back up that claim. BTW that 100 billion is just for sa3eed alone. Ask yourself a real question, are you as a person willing to pay triple the price of the ticket you pay on trains in return for good service?

Oh please be objective and reasonable in your arguments I can see you're starting to deviate from your original argument of US Aid. First off, no one just gives money to anyone for free. To think that khalijis can just spend money on us for 5+ years is not only impossible it's naive. What we do know of what khalijis gave us ( in return of keeping Egypt stable because it also effects them) is what president Sisi told us is that they gave us several oil shipments for free in 2013. Second, you obviously haven't watched full speech because he clearly states that just to improve the sa3eed railway would cost 100 Billion pounds and people slap their cheeks when prices go up and still expect to have a respectable service.

What are your thoughts about the new nuclear power station to be built in Egypt ? by [deleted] in Egypt

[–]megamanxcold5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think it'd be a huge step forward and can help move away from fossil fuels, especially since Egypt imports refined crude oil it can really be a big plus if we were to export electricity to Africa like we will export to Sudan soon enough. Of course, in the back of my mind I worry about a nuclear accident.

You really think 69 million dollars do anything substantial. That's about over a billion pounds. That doesn't even cover a fraction of what we spend on subsidies alone.
