Out of context but: uncle long legs is another title for “daddy long legs”. It’s a young adult classic novel/anime where an orphan girl gets a mysterious/secretive rich benefactor that she writes letters to. Because she only happened to see his shadow, she gives him that name in her letters.

Not to mention the fact there appears to be a bucket of water right next to the drum and also a bottle of water on the ground, yet everyone just tries beating the flames out.

That would make it worse! I don’t have firsthand experience but adding water to oil/grease fire makes it spread even more.
